Is the Jan. Bangkok Job Fair a waste of money for newbies?

Post by tgrear2008 »

I'm signing up with Search Associates. I don't know if I'll even be invited. Despite me already being in Korea, and saving a little dough on the flight (compared with one from the states), I'll still be dropping a lot of cash to go to this event.

Now that I look at it, there's a smaller January fair in Sydney, and a 2nd Fair in Bangkok later in the spring.

Would it be smart to forget about the big Bangkok event and shoot for the later one, with schools that might be less picky?

Is the Sydney fair at a disadvantage being that it's scheduled right before the Bangkok fair?

My stats:
NC license 6-9 Math/Social Studies
2 yrs NC public school 7th grade math/social studies
high school coaching experience
currently at a hagwon in Korea
30 yr old, single, white male, no kids

Thanks for your help. I'm trying to go about this the right way, and not waste money when it's not necessary.

I have decided to decline the invitation for the January Fair and I am going to hit up the Spring fair. I might not get into one of the top tier schools, however this is my first job, so I don't think I can compete for those jobs yet. I feel I will be more successful at the Spring job fair in Bangkok. Anyone have any information about this one?

Can someone give me the lowdown on what kind of schools to expect? I really want to stay in Asia, prefereably SEA.

Thanks,

Anthony
