Living in Indonesia ? Pollution ?

Just wondering what it is like to live in Jakarta ?

Throw Jakarta into the search window and there's 16+ pages to scan. Quite a few discuss schools, others housing and pollution. Might be able to direct message people.

Jaks is as bad as you've heard! You might also want to read up on teachers being what appears to be falsely jailed on abuse charges recently

Its dirty crowded, and traffic is up for worst in the world. Jakarta is popular with ITs because they one, think Jakarta is like Bali, which it isnt, but second its very cheap to live there. Its the tropics and like the Philippines and Thailand if you have money, which if you work at an upper tier IS you will be making about 5 times more than a professional and 10 times the average income easily. That affords ITs a very comfortable standard of living.

Stay well away is my advice. 40 members of staff are leaving one of the better schools in terms of pay (and as in most countries, the schools which pay well and where you would want to work are in a small minority). The traffic congestion,which could quite possiblity be the worst in the world, places severe restrictions on your mobility and quality of life. Indonesian international schools are also facing difficulties due to government legislation and there is the infamous abuse case which provides a dark underbelly to teaching here. On a positive note, the Indonesian people are wonderful, or at least the ones who are not corrupt!

Even the ones that are corrupt are nice, you just have to pay them as opposed to getting the niceness for free.
