Re: Salary range in China?

Yes I am aware that the calculus would probably go to the senior IT. However, I would just be screwed if I had to teach calculus at present. I am decently proficient in Algebra, Geometry, etc. You basically have to know the basics for those even for the middle school licensing test that I took last year. I have never even taking a calculus class in school. I am not gifted numbers wise or mathematically. I should have been studying this past year while I was in Korea doing nothing.

Now now I am trying to figure out the best course of action.

I am only in the US for another month or so. At the moment I and finishing up the last part of my TeacherReady program.

I could probably add 1 or 2 certifications before I leave. I am thinking to add Elementary Ed. and one of either Social Studies or Computer Science. Elem. Ed will only take 1 or 2 weeks of study. Not sure how long the other ones would take as I would basically be starting from scratch. Tests are not cheap (200$) so I can't not afford to waste money and not pass on first attempt.

If I were to add one of SS or CS, which one would you recommend?

Then after I return to Korea in January bust my tail studying for the Maths 9-12 exam to take when I return to the US.

Also, while in Korea apply to IS for Fall 16' for jobs I am currently or will be qualified for i.e. middle grades math and elementary. If I get one of SS or CS then those as well.

If I get a job for Fall 16 great. If not, no biggie. I will use some vacation time to return to the USA next November and take the High School Math exam. Pass and start applying for jobs for the Fall 17. Then when contract finishes shortly after I return from the states go relax in Thailand, Philippines, or Vietnam for 6 months until Fall 17.

Re: Which and why?

If you are a single male Brazil no question.

Its not like you wouldn't be able to save any money there. Your social and dating life would be 1,000 times better in Brazil.

Re: Salary range in China?

Yea that probably is not a good idea. I think I will just add elementary and maybe SS to my middle school math. then take what ever I can get this winter to fall.

Wish I would have applied myself in math while I was in school or atleast been studying it this past year. Not being able to add the 9-12 is causing me some stress. lol

Re: Salary range in China?

@Psy

You are right one could pass the exam missing all calculus questions. However, at present it would be a terrible idea to risk having to teach something like that out of knowledge / expertise. Maybe after a year of studying lol. Still need to refresh completely on Algebra lol.

Is ICT the sam thing as "Information Technology" in Fla? http://www.fl.nesinc.com/tests.asp

I actually could probably add that before I leave the US.

Not sure I can adequately teach Calculus. I was never really a math person in school. I mean I made B's without really applying myself. Just never pushed myself or was interested in taking any high advanced level math.

Which would you recommend out of SS or ICT? Could just do both and throw in a PE as well. But now way I could do that this first go around as Ill be out of the country soon. Maybe if I failed to get anything for Fall16 then maybe could throw some stuff on for Fall 17

What avenues did you use to get those job offers?

Re: Salary range in China?

@Psy

I have passed all the Florida tests. Only thing left to do is the final week of student teaching. My certification area is middle school math.

I won't be able to attend a fair.

I guess I will just spam the all the job databases & recruiting boards with my CV. Also maybe even cold email schools my CV. Maybe try some Facebook groups as well.

Wont be the end of the world if I do not get a position for Fall 16. Ill get to chill in Vietnam or Thailand for half the year relaxing lol.

What would be your plan of attack and expectations for getting a job if you where in my shoes?

- Completing my final assignment this month with TeacherReady but it takes 4-5 months to actually be sent your license if I recall (newb teacher)
- Going to back to Korea in 2-3 months (January) (hoping to leave come July/August) (want to pay off my credit card in that span which i can easily do given 4+ months)
- Want to get a job in Asia for Fall 16'

You can obtain a SSN if you are taking US course work I believe. Need to check that though

One can be fairly certain there are recruiters out there that use these fairs for mini vacations and various activities if you know what I mean. Alternative motives per say.

I assume your CV was pretty bare correct? How big of a problem was that? How many offers did you get?

I am not looking forward to having a CV with no experience and a ATC program. lol

I am the OP. I lost my login / email info for my original username.

I highly recommend TeacherReady.

Pros - easy, cheap, convenient
Cons - not really sure if there is any cons if we are speaking from solely a alternative certification program.

Due to my own procrastination, difficulties of finding a school and mentor close to where I lived in Korea, complications with previous schools (mentor leaving, bad timing i.e. end of year testing, etc etc) I have drug my license out very long. Just now back in the US and gonna be finishing my final 5 days student teaching this month or next. Altogether, it will have taken me 3 years. The program itself is only 9 months if I remember correct so long as you experience no complications and do not procrastinate.

Re: Salary range in China?

How do most 2nd tier schools advertise or find teachers (or teachers find them)?
