Search

All I can say is that $200.00 is a worthwhile investment for the information that will be at your fingertips. Search has a great searchable database that lets you search by opening, country, partner's teaching area etc.

Also, schools are not always going to provide the information available on search to a candidate unless they are interviewing you. The school file on Search can tell you at a glance whether it is a good situation for you.

I hate to sound like a commerical for them, and in reality my associate has never done a dmn thing for me. Even if you never go to a fair, it would be well worth it just for the job/school info.

Also, you could possibly just sign up one of you to get access (especially if you never plan on going to a job fair).

Job Search

For what its worth, I would invest the money to try and register with Search Associates. I have found the job listings more comprehensive then TIE and they offer very detailed information about the school's salary, benefits, make up of students/faculty and the possible savings potential.

Even if you do not find a position this year, the information will still be very valuable as you see the pattern of postings, job fairs etc.

That being said, there are many schools that are or will be still looking for teachers before the fall (if you are flexible where you start).

Job hunt with 2 dependents

Hi:

We only have one child, but we know many teachers who have found great opportunities at very good schools with two children. I'm sure there are some schools where it may weigh slightly against you (due to space or the fact you are up against a couple with one or no children), but it should not close many doors for you. Two dependents seems to be readily accepted by most schools (just don't have another before you get your dream job!).

You are in better shape if your wife is going for an ESL or any non-elementary to balance out your elementary (it seems many schools save the elementary spots to fill out the other half of a secondary hire).

Our one child has special needs (which is another story altogether!), but we have found our share of positions and opportunities by doing a little more homework and legwork.

Good luck!
