No I don't mean on a lunch break. I'm talking about fridges stocked with beer and wine, and crates of beer actually IN the teachers lounge. On the school's campus.
I've seen it at 4 schools in the Netherlands so far.

In the Netherlands you can find beer and wine in staff lounges at many schools. Of course its not consumed during school hours!

Actually there's an entire section of this site dedicated to non-Caucasian international teachers. It's been discussed, but overall minorities are still a minority in the world of international education.

Re: Looking for Feedback
Aside from some Asian countries its not so much that your race is an issue as much as there just isn't a large pool of Blacks or minorities representing in international schools period. Its mainly the TEFL market that posts jobs for 'white skin' only, and those aren't the jobs you're looking for anyways.
There's a few groups on Facebook with many minority teachers, school heads, and counselors throughout China, ME, CA, SA and Europe. First join the group "Black Americans Teaching Abroad." Post your questions there. The group is way more encouraging, supportive, and will be more helpful than any response you'll get here. Also there's job postings that pop up frequently in the network alone.
And about being a single mother...;)

The email was from TeachAway, but I would use them AND Footprints if you want to try to work for ADEC. Also SeekTeachers and Joyjobs have many listings.

Re: Application Advice
There has definitely been more than 20 jobs that have been (and are currently) available in the ME. This was in my inbox this morning:
Seeking teachers for 300 vacancies in Abu Dhabi?
"Hi (peachestotulips),
I just took a look at your profile and wanted to let you know about the 300 new teaching vacancies that I’m seeking candidates for. These teaching positions start in August 2016 and are with the Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC) in the United Arab Emirates.
ADEC offers some of the most lucrative teaching contracts in the world. Monthly salaries start at $3350 USD and contracts include return airfare, accommodation and health insurance for up to 3 dependents."
Etc, etc...
In my FB groups there are people getting hired in the ME everyday. Keep trying!

Have you at least tried with ADEC? I just saw last week that they are on a hiring spree for 400+ teachers.

Re: Getting a Master's before being licensed?
At GMU the International Elementary track in the M.Ed. in Teaching Culturally Linguistically Diverse & Exceptional learners requires 18 months to earn the teaching license & 2 years to complete the M.Ed. Its a hybrid course and you would only need to be there on campus from the end of June to the end of July for 2 summers. There are other tracks in this program that are online only. This course in particular costs $557/credit and it requires 27 credits, not 36. So at most you're looking at somewhere around $17000 tops including the cost of attending the hybrid courses.
No its not $5000, but its nowhere near $75K as was suggested. You also can receive the IB Teaching & Learning Certificate if you take one additional course.

Re: Getting a Master's before being licensed?
Why not just do a Master's program that offers a teaching licensure option?
George Mason University has several programs that lead to Virginia state licensure.
https://gse.gmu.edu/teaching-culturally ... entration/
A plus is that most of these programs are actually focused on international education rather than the dull national/state standards that do not touch many of the issues you'll face as an international teacher. GMU is a bit costly but once you find a great school to work in, the M.Ed will pay for itself in a few years.

Yeah I see the PYP is basically nonexistent, but the DP is offered in quite a few schools all over. Shame.

I've been trying to find an answer to this, and don't really know where to look. Are there many DoDDS schools that offer the IB curriculum or that are also IB World Schools? I have found a few that offer the DP.

Re: Masters program advice
After participating in the info session I feel that GMU is the best option. Before I even asked, the recruiter mentioned a few times that most graduates are currently IB Coordinators. Its also possible to complete the program in as little as 10 months, rather than 2 years. Thanks for your input.

Re: Masters program advice
Thanks for your responses. Its not so much that I feel I need an advance degree to "backup" my current STEM experience; but since I've decided to go for it I wondered why not be in an area that I'm proficient in? I have a general B.Ed in primary ed, so I want my master's to be a bit more specific to what I love. I just have concerns that it could eventually do more harm than good having STEM written on my master's certificate in the long run. I think the Advanced IB degree will be more marketable and provide me with better resources. I looked at the syllabi of a few courses at GMU and the content is exactly what I'm looking for.
If anyone is interested, tonight GMU is having an online "Information Session" at 4:00PM EST for those who have questions about their TCLDEL (formerly FAST TRAIN) program.
