For those schools that send an automated response.. do you follow up with them if you don't hear anything after that for a while? Contact the principal/director directly?

What have you (anyone) said in that follow up email?

We've applied to 8 so far, and have heard back from a few with automated responses, and 2 personal responses. One has said they are going to schedule an initial Skype interview soon, and one has said they would like to interview us at the Cambridge fair.

We're both elementary, so not in high demand.

They requested an interview anyway... Go figure.

My associate on Search recommended referring them (schools in general) to my profile to view the confidential references, and if they request more then to send open letters. Maybe a biased opinion, but one none the less.

Thanks all..

Above the salutation, I always put the intended receiver(s) and the school's address. This information was correct on the letter, just the salutation was wrong.

Oops!

Ok.. please tell me I'm not alone here.

I've been wearing my eyeballs out researching schools, filling out applications, and reworking cover letters to match the schools. I just filled out an application to a school and changed the names and pertinent (or so I thought) and sent it out, thinking, "Check that one off the list..."

Come to find out I hadn't actually changed the name in the Dear _______, part of the letter when I submitted it to the last school. DOH! Kicking myself right now, and feeling very sheepish...

My instinct is to just let it slide and and maybe they won't notice, haha. I'm guessing that's not going to be the case. Does anyone think it wise to point it out to them or resubmit?

To add to the question:

We have our confidential references all complete on Search, but are waiting for letters of recommendation from current admin. Should we apply to schools now anyway (for those schools who have letters of rec as a required upload on their applications), or wait until we get the letters?

Thanks again. I tend to be a perfectionist at these little things, and I never feel quite like I have it exactly how I want it. I've got formatting OCD, but my bedroom is a mess, haha.

Nothing yet. We're behind the ball a little.. just got activated on Search today, yahoo! We've a stockpile of schools we'd love to teach at, and a few that we have some good connections at that have asked when we're going to apply so they can drop our names, but we haven't applied anywhere yet. One of my wife's references (her current head principal) hasn't filled out the reference form yet. Will that be a problem if we apply places now?

You seem like an expert on the subject, can I send you my resume to critique? If so, I'll give my email address so you don't have to put yours out there.

Thanks Cheery,

I only took the references out of my resume while I was job hunting in the US, and again, only based on advice I had been given. Putting them back in now :)

Also, do you include their mailing address when you cite your references? Does anyone care about mailing addresses anymore?

Ive searched the forum and can't seem to find an answer to this question:

With IS's, should I put the references/contact info at the end of my resume or is that redundant since I'm on Search and they can find it there?

I know I didn't include them when I was job searching in the US (based on some advice) since I was going to turn in letters of recommendation for each of them anyway.

Thanks Cheery,

So not many of the applications require letters of recommendation to be sent with them? I don't have those in hand (or digitally) yet. I've asked my supervisors to write them, but they don't have them done yet.

Along similar lines here-

I have a misdemeanor for speeding in Virginia (don't get me started..). Is this going to disqualify me from teaching in any certain countries?
