We made out website on weebly.com It was pretty easy. I don't know how it compares to google or any other, but it was free. You can upload photos, videos, files etc.

I would subscribe to tieonline too. Lots of schools post their openings on that web site. As far as getting your credential, there are some online programs. One is called FAST TRAIN Program ~ FAST TRAIN
fasttrain.gmu.edu
Other universities offer online training too. Some countries require the certification for a visa, others require a BA or MA, and others want to see you are in some type of training towards certification.
Good luck

Nui, Do you have a teaching credential/certification? If not, you may want to think about getting it. A masters degree is often not sufficient, especially if you don't have any experience.

I've been admin in American and now in an international school. Very, very busy in both jobs, but with different things. I don't know about psyguy's job and not being busy, finding admin sleepy. I don't find it at all. In America I did deal with more discipline issues, more special ed type things, student study team, lots of data and all things NCLB. Here in an international school I am dealing more with parents in a variety of ways including finances, being more involved with their child's education, wanting more say in scheduling etc. I also find myself very involved with staff development (which I did in the states too, but there it was more scheduling it than presenting it), supply ordering, menu planning. Things that were done by the district office in the states are done by each individual school here, so admin takes on all those roles as well.
Conclusion...I am really busy, some days barely time for lunch. I would say that admin in an intl setting is just as busy and time consuming as admin in America.

Getting a job might not be that difficult, but matching that salary ($44,000) is Asia will be. I have 25 yr experience, and live/teach in Asia and my salary is not even close to that. I have friends in Viet Nam and China and they don't make nearly that much either (think half that salary for a beginning teacher, in a non-tier1 school). That being said, the cost of living is quite cheap here compared to America, so you could live comfortably and travel in many places in Asia (maybe not Hong Kong/Singapore/Japan) on much less.

That's a short day, psyguy. How do you get all your work done? Where is your school? Our school starts at 7:50 and ends 3:30 and two days per week it ends at 4. I am admin too, so my day is even longer.

I understand your concern. We left a few years ago to take jobs, when our youngest was 18 and just starting college. I was really nervous about it. It's worked out great. She is more independent, has gotten jobs by herself, knows where to get the car fixed, found her own apartment, applied for her own student loan and the list goes on. We also electronically linked our bank accounts, one way-I can access hers, but she cannot access mine! We use skype and magic jack all the time, bring our kids over on xmas vacation and see them a lot during the summer.

Nuibi, I am a little confused too. You have a Masters's in Secondary Education, but not a teaching credential? I guess where I got my MA in Education, you had to first have a teaching certificate to enter the program or they went hand in hand, you didn't get one without the other.
If you are a science teacher, you probably have a good chance at getting picked up somewhere. But, honestly, lots of intl teachers have an MA degree.

Actually, there are a few newer threads about QSI (2011 anyway). Put QSI in the search box and you'll find them.

My family was the same way. My dad told me I was "blowing up the nest", since we took our first overseas post when our youngest started college. I also had friends who couldn't understand why I would leave the "greatest country on earth." But, it's been a few years now, and though not everyone is thrilled that we signed on for another year, most have accepted that this is the lifestyle we want and enjoy. This year we even welcomed 8 or 9 visitors, who would never have traveled half way around the world if we weren't here. The kids have visited each year and love being able to travel. I think what has helped my family/friends the most is that we constantly keep in touch via, skype, MagicJack, Facebook, blogs etc.

Here's ed code about BTSA:

In 1998, the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing sponsored and the Governor signed legislation that restructured teacher credentialing in California (SB 2042, Alpert/Mazzoni, Ch. 548, Statutes of 1998). The highlights of this reform included a new requirement that teachers complete a two-year induction program of support and formative assessment during their first two years of teaching as a requirement for earning a clear teaching credential. SB 2042 makes participation in an induction program mandatory.

A little more:
In 2004, SB 2210 (Chap. 343, Stats. of 2004) established Induction as the required route to earn the professional clear credential, if a program is available. If an Induction Program is not available, as verified by the employer, then the individual may complete an approved SB 2042
Fifth Year of Study program.[/u]

Life after QSI

I've been with QSI for a few years now and for the most part like it, but am nervously thinking about moving on after next year. My question is...Is their life after QSI? A few teachers at the school are searching for jobs right now and are coming up empty. Is this because of the economy or is it hard to break out of QSI? Do other international schools look down on teachers work for QSI? Do you have experience getting a job at another international school after your QSI career?

iTunes works in SE Asia. You just need your credit card. I don't know about China, you might need VPN.
