Re: 'Normal' full time teaching load in Secondary
So for us t's 18 periods out of 24, each being 65 minutes long.
Or to put it another way - 75% of the available teaching time.

Consistently aspects of international education you describe are what US colleagues have said they like.
And that they can't find at 'home'.
So maybe that says something?

'Normal' full time teaching load in Secondary
I am wondering what people consider a 'normal' full time teaching load in Secondary schools?
For example, for us it's 18/24 periods.
But how is it viewed in other schools?
Thanks.

Oh, and skiing!
An easy train ride to great slopes. Plus with the school as well.

Re: New Hobbies/Languages/Ways of Spending Time
I have taken the opportunity to really get into running.
I was always a runner, but the safety, infrastructure, beauty and variety of where I live now means I can really indulge myself in a way that other locations didn't allow for.
This is both in personal training and also in mass organised events.

Re: Student Behaviour
We are an ELC to G12 through school. We have school wide expectations of students that are shared with them, and their parents. These are based our 3 overarching agreements on respect, and also implicitly the IB Learner Profile (as we are an IB school).
These are supported by our Behaviour Policy which has a matrix of levels to support teachers and leaders with implementation, and for students and parents to understand.
Everyone is responsible for holding students accountable and for modelling the behaviours and actions we wish to see. E.g. picking up rubbish, being courteous and polite etc.
We have shared supervision duties - so a Secondary teacher may be on duty in the Primary playground - and we expect everyone to be vigilant and proactive.
It's always a work in progress and our leadership team has to be visible in implementing and supporting our teachers in holding students to these expectations.

Yes. Sorry. I dreamt it all. None of what I said is real. I was just making stuff up for likes and clicks and attention.
I wish I could be helpful and share my experiences with others. But I am just too obsessed with my own ego and desire to start arguments in an empty room...
Why do you insist on being a mentalist?

As I said before:
'Sometimes it can be that work permit requirements come into play, depending on the country and the passport of the teacher.
So it may be necessary for a teacher to have prior (in this case) IB experience in order for the school to obtain a work permit.'
This is still true. No, there is a not an immigration checklist that I know of, but the reality is that we can't hire non EU teachers without IB experience. I wish it was different. It's not.
Also, please do learn how to use apostrophes.

Yes.
We're not EU, but EFTA. So our country rules apply.
Also, yes, different EU countries may have different rules/requirements.
I just get grumpy when my reality is questioned. Particularly when it's done without apostrophes...

Again, for those at the back, for us to get permits for non-EU teachers we would need them to have IB experience. This isn't our school decision, it's the decision of the place our school is in.
As in, the people awarding the permits want it, need it, dare I say require it...
This may not be widespread, but it is true for where we are.

PS - The apostrophe (' or ’) is a punctuation mark, and sometimes a diacritical mark, in languages that use the Latin alphabet and some other alphabets. In English, the apostrophe is used for two basic purposes:
The marking of the omission of one or more letters, e.g. the contraction of "do not" to "don't".

If a candidate is from the EU then we don't have to worry about IB experience for permits.
If a teacher is non-EU and has IB experience then we can most likely get them a permit to work at our school.
If a teacher is non-EU and has no IB experience we are unlikely to be able to get them a permit.
Those are simple facts my apostrophe phobic bête noire.
