Re: Reference Checks
Oh! I see what you all are saying and I've been unnclear - I was wondering if they will call the references of multiple candidates or only their top choice candidate? Not which of those candidates references they will call.

Reference Checks
Hey everyone, happy new year! Please talk me down off the ledge here - we've been engaged in Mr. UnCloudy interviewing for his dream job for the last month and they've finally asked if they may call his references. This is likely the last step, but will admin generally call for their top choice or their top...three choices? Thanks :)

Re: for profit schools - are there exceptions?
Hmm, thank you for your replies everyone. I think that I'm at the stage where I am stretching the limits of what we are looking for because I'm nervous about where we will end up next year. I'm going to continue to aim high and leave the for-profits alone for now. Is it Friday yet?

Re: for profit schools - are there exceptions?
Thank you, fine...the paid side is where I got kind of hopeful that maybe some for-profits were different. that the money for a teaching couple is do-able. I've worked for a marketing machine before, however, and don't love it...
Patience, patience, patience, right? I really hate recruiting season.

Re: Job Fair or not?
I get what you're saying about wanting to win the fair, too...and I absolutely get that way. The cost from where we are is just really stinking prohibitive this time around. I think that between us we are looking at $5-6K all told. Bleh!
Happy Wednesday :)

Re: Job Fair or not?
Eehhhh, there is no looking cute for a winter fair in Boston :p Though I guess I'm in for wool tights, etc. if I get stuck going to London. Jeez, I really don't want to go to a fair!!!

Re: Job Fair or not?
I think we earn two days the first year and a day each year thereafter. What about you?

Re: Job Fair or not?
Yeah, we accepted invited to Search London and are really hoping we don't have to go. It's just SO much money and the timing is awful - a full week off work to travel there from where we are.
I think we'll only go if we have strong interest beforehand, and meetings already lined up. Otherwise we'll back out :(

for profit schools - are there exceptions?
I was wondering if there are any exceptions to the "don't work at for profit schools, if you can help it" bit of common wisdom? ACS Egham in the UK has openings and while I'm trying not to be swayed by a slick website, it's tempting to apply. Thoughts? Thank you!

Re: Early job offer
Congratulations!! With an offer on the table, don't hold out for Caracas of all places. Hold out for something "better" if you must, but not Caracas. Good luck with whatever you decide :)

Re: Euro Schools - specifics, please?
Thanks, everyone. The husband is a bit of a golden goose with his endorsements and experience (I'm not shabby, but he's the one they will go after) so we're going to just apply everywhere and see what happens. Best of luck to everyone this season!

Re: Euro Schools - specifics, please?
Thank you so much @wrldtrvlr123 and @mamava! I suppose it that fragile ego time of year, right? I appreciate your thoughts - we have been pretty nervous that so many positions in The Husband's field are at big big name schools. We aren't necessarily looking to go the elite route at all - but if it is what's available it is good to know that we don't look like fools applying :)

Re: Euro Schools - specifics, please?
Yeah, I know - and I have read everything everywhere I can...but minimums aren't norms and definitely aren't ideals so I was hoping for some gold nugget that would tell me if we are competitive :) But thank you, Sid!
