Your timing should be determined by when you need references. Make sure they know your plans before an agency or another school contacts them. It would be very difficult if they find out 2nd hand without teachers having the courtesy to tell them first. Just say you are thinking about moving on and want to check out other options.

IF (emphasis on IF) you have a good relationships with them and IF they are professionals, then tell them early and they will appreciate it. International schools have high turnover and good administrators understand this - the earlier they know about staffing the better.

Good administators will also help with your job search. So flatter them; ask for their expert advice on how to write an application letter and update your CV - this makes them feel good and makes you much more comfortable in discussing your departure

good luck

I have had a similar problem when trying to get my British qualifications recognised by a HR person who had only dealt with Americans previously and couldn't understand why i didn't have American style documents.

I contacted the Director and explained the problem and overnight he sorted it out.

Keep all your communications with the HR person upbeat and positive as they will be important to you once you are at the school.

Hi Tom

Don?t know about being Canadian- I am British and opened up an account with ANZ no problem.

The system worked like this. My school in Beijing paid my salary in to BOC. I set up a regular transfer to then send half my salary to ANZ in Beijing. The costs were minimal. I then instructed ANZ to transfer my money to my bank in England (Barclays), and ANZ charged me $10 US regardless of how much. My Bank in England charged me for changing the money from US Dollars in to UK Pounds.

I had to fill in a form each month but ANZ were so easy to work with and they let me fill in a year?s worth of forms in one go so I didn?t have to go to the bank each month. I do not know if it is still as easy, but is worth checking.

I no longer do this as my wife is now working for an international company who pay her entire salary into her English Bank and we live on my RMB salary here in China. This is the best way for us but no use to you if you are single.
good luck.

Hi Tom

Set up an account with ANZ bank in Beijing or Shanghai and transfer all your money from BOC to ANZ. You can then transfer very cheaply. You have to prove you have paid the tax on your salary. You might have to live in Beijing or Shanghai to set up the ANZ account. Please ask ANZ to confirm this is still the case as i have not done this for the last two years.

Rereading my post it looks rather abrupt. sorry :(
What I mean is, do you want to know about the Int school of Ulaanbaatar? I know little about the school but I can recommend their new director. I worked with her some years ago and found her extremely hard working, fair, decisive, would always listen to reason and always leaves school matters at school which is very important for a small community.

From the rumours in Beijing, you should consider yourself lucky. However, I would rather hear from teachers directly than believe second hand gossip. Any CIS teachers out there willing to write a review?
