Re: Salary Help for Europe

Well my friend who lives in Italy told me that number, I also looked it up. And this person makes 40,000 euros and takes home 2,000 euros a month. Same status as me. I asked them how they came to this figure and it was very evasive. Im Italian with citizenship and I kind of know how Italy is, a bit evasive. When it comes to a contract however and money I think it needs to be clear, it cant just be some random figure. I was told "thats about your net income." Is this ok?

Salary Help for Europe

Hi,
Does anyone know the tax rate for Italy? I was offered a job, the contract says 49,000 Euros gross, but net is 1900 a month. I am told the tax rate on that salary is 37 percent plus local and regional taxes but it still seems too low a month based on the yearly gross salary. Also, how doesincome tax work there? I know they take it out of your salary but is there a period where they take more out? Thanks

Re: Interview

Thanks for all your help. Gee I have so much stuff, they said I could ship over by sea and they would pay but seems like too much. Has anyone ever taught in Italy? Curious. I go there every summer as I have friends and family but never taught there. The school I got the job with has no reviews. Id that good or bad?

Re: Interview

Thanks. I was totally caught off guard as they wanted the interview for next week but emailed me this morning for it. Geeze. But, I got it. I'm not a new teacher been 18 years here, new question how do you know what to take? I asked them but they said what you'd like. I'd hate to go to a new school and not have enough resources or spend money out of pocket. What do you guys usually do? Thanks

Interview

Hi,
I finally have an interview with a school I want. For some reason my mind is blank and cant remember the questions usually asked. Can anyone remind me :) and also what questions would you ask when really I would be ecstatic if they just gave me this job. But, I dont want to seem overeager. Help..

Re: New To International Teaching

No, I gave a yes email. However, then questioned the salary. So, for some reason he is going out of his way to convince me the salary is good, its not 38k a year. It is 22K-July-Jan, 43k, jan-Jan, 22k July-Jan.
I wonder if through a yes email if one is blacklisted though Im not entirely happy with ISS anyway.

Re: New To International Teaching

I should branch out. It gets exhausting. I don't know now if I will be blacklisted. I can try TIE and search I suppose. But, will he stop me from getting a job elsewhere?

Re: New To International Teaching

I am licensed in Prek-6 general education
Prek-6 Gifted Education
Secondary Edication 7-12 (enlgish language arts)
I have only been to ISS teaching fairs but for 5 years.
I have great recommendations
I have over a decade experience.No dependents.
I basically put my CV in about 30 recruiters maliboxes.
I am now exhausted.
I see kids who just graduated getting jobs that I applied for.
It's quite frustrating.

Re: New To International Teaching

I have read the cost of living can be equivalent to european standards. Basically, there is medical but prescriptionsI have read from other teachers have to be purchased by you. They do provide round trip transportation andI read that they find the cheapest airfares with lots of layovers. There is a 1200 relocation allowance. The salaryis about 26,000 us dollars with 12,000 stipend for living. The apartment is paid. Basically, I have tried for a longtime to get a job. I have been to over 5 ISS conferences, I have 17 years experience and 3 licenses. This job was all I could get and only after two others declined. Im not about money or superficial but I also dont want to be stuck as I do have bills here. I dont understand whyI am not considered for other positions.
