I work in Bangalore, in a school that is 11 years old, a nice campus, lots of resources. the school is growing, that is the reason behind most of the jobs openings.
Yes, traffic tends to make you stay at home, and pollution can be bad (and no visible political goals to fight it, unfortunately!).
Just like in any country, saving depends on lifestyle, and in a bigger city: more opportunities to spend... nothing new!
I find a bit disturbing the comments implying that a school with a high rate of local students is seen as not as good as one with mainly expats. Not all locals are spoiled brats, just like not all expat are academically focused with open minds. It all depends on the school culture, the school management and teachers.

A friend of mine with no IB experience registered herself to an online workshop, ans she is going to do some sub in an international school: that's a way to get some IB stuff in your resume (the online training is 375 UKP, affordable!)
For your first job, you may have to accept a position in a school that is not "top of the crop", but will get you the experience. That's what I did for my second school: had MYP experience but no subject specific training, and no DP (experience and training): the school sent me to 2 workshops, and I got the experience there: not top package, but top teaching experience!
Good luck!
(try to get the teaching guide for your subject, read it, and in interviews, mention specific points to show that you know what you are talking about! (and of course, pair that with your own relevant teaching experience!)

Hey!
I don't know about the Principal, but know the director (an ex WAB, maybe that's why they compare themselves to that school) and the MYP coordinator (from another school)
They both are great, really the kind of people you'd want to work with.
The top tear schools have either massive ego or strategies to "filter the candidates". One Year, WAB didn't even have the job listed on the poster behing the sign up table... "we want people who want us, not just a teaching position"... ego? maybe, but hey, you got to fight for those top packages (hopefully and usually also top teaching experiences! not always true though!)
If something like that happens to you again (I mean a chance to get into a great school), go beyond the first impression and try to find some teachers from that school to talk to.
Now, I haven't taught in that school, and I have no idea how much impact this Principal has on staff moral! (don't I'd have liked him myself!)

I don't know about the US fairs, but the Bangkok one is good, got job offers every time I went.
About Search: yes, the data base helps, the secret questions and stuff make more "genuine info" for recruiters.
I am very happy with my associate/agent (Deelman) He and his team have always been very helpful, answering questions fast, contact with a personal touch in the fairs, and they helped me get some compensation when 2 schools broke my contracts (along with many other "signed at the fairs" contracts/other teachers). I would never had gotten anything if it wasn't for their "behind the scene" work.
Search is a safety net, and frankly, where would you get the school info if it wasn't there?
Go for it!

Hello Krdking!
I wrote like a summary of my resume, short sentences... (the recruiters have so much to read), basically the highlights!
Plus a couple of lines on my philosophy of education and a couple of details, like the other things I could teach (got the skills but not the degree for it)
I guess the biography is there to make the recruiters want to download and read the whole resume!
Good luck with your search!

Why so many job openings at the American School of Doha
I just saw on Tie that the American School of Doha posted around 25 jobs/openings.
Are they expanding? Is the school a nightmare and everybody is running away?
If you have some info, please share... I wouldn't want to fall from Scylla to Charybdis!!!
Thanks!

I have taught MYP French for 10 years and think it's a great program:
We had total freedom to decide the topics we'd teach (topics and grammar: what would make sense for the students/age group), etc.
The assessment (if well prepared/designed) is challenging and a good preparation for IB.
I am now in an IGCSE school, and I miss the MYP.
That said, I recon some coordinators can be maniacs and control freaks. I was lucky enough to work with one who was great.

I would start with the DP one, go MYP next year. Getting to know how DP works is important as you have only 2 years to prepare the kids well, and there are some internal assessments that come early in the program.
What workshop to attend?
I would certainly check who is the workshop leader and post a question here. I went to 3 workshops so far: 2 great (MYP in Basel, and DP in Bangkok), one USELESS (a ≈ë“{‘ waste of time and money! that was the one in NYC, at UNIS. I thought that was a guaranty of good standard, but: the workshop a level 2: out of 14 teachers, we were only 3 teachers with DP experience. The workshop leader was also very bad, an example: she gave examples of assignments she practices that where like samples of what Subject reports present as bad practice!)
Double check who the workshop leaders are, that is really important.
Online workshops? there nothing like the contact with other teachers, from a variety of schools. I wouldn't do the online ws.
Good luck in Dubai!

The school is posting a certain number of jobs... I checked their details: the package seems quite poor.
There is only one review on ISR, and it's for 2005.
Anyone knows that school? Do the beaches are a good enough to make up for poor package (life style Vs. financial comfort), how is the management, how are the kids?
Hope someone can help!

Do you know anything about that school? There are 4 reviews in ISR about that school, but none on this one! IS the school new? big? nice? etc.
What is it like to live in Burma?
Hope someone can help!
