Search only for me...signed up in September, paperwork completed by October, searched for jobs in November, school found me and Mrs. HOF in December...it wasn't on our radar but it matched just about everything we were looking for in a first experience.
Overall, very happy with Search...I can't say there was much personal service, but the database got us our first international posts, and for that we are quite thankful.

Litgal, Cambridge isn't the last Search fair...there are five or six after that. Granted, positions will be decreasing, but for those yet unfilled positions schools will likely be getting increasingly likely to fill positions on the spot.
Also, the Search database is manually updated by schools as often as they choose. I know that the position I accepted stayed visible on Search for a while, I assume the hiring . is not always the same person that updates online databases.
Best to you in your recruiting!

Don't be a dirtbag and lie about your religion to get a job. If you are a humanist, this is probably already obvious to you, but if you are in doubt...let me make it clear: lying about your religion to get a job means you are working for (and with) people you don't want to be around. Anyone who makes you pledge allegiance to Christianity isn't worth your time. Would you pretend to be a republican? A vegetarian? Someone with five years of IB experience? Be honest about who you are...

In my experience with hiring committees, if we are taking the time to contact references, we are fairly interested in a candidate. If your references were solid, an interview is likely. Calling references for all applicants would be extremely time consuming, and at least half of your applicants usually don't make the initial cut for one reason or another...

I'm not there, but have a friend who is...smallish places, but absolutely adequate--some are a ways from campus, and traffic is terrible. On the plus side, you probably won't drive in said terrible traffic, because you can hire a local driver for a few hundred USD per month. You'll probably end up with a cook/house cleaner as well. Campus has much of what you need day to day, so you be wading out into traffic to find a bank, which is nice. She is quite happy there.
Congrats on the job, how long did it take from your initial contact to the job offer? We've put out feelers to JIS but they've been fairly quiet in response.
