Re: Country-native headteachers
It's discussions like this that bring back the saying - a little bit of knowledge is a dangerous thing; unfortunately, this appears to be the case for too many teachers. Why? The younger generation has been indoctrinated with left wing nonsense. Of course there is nothing wrong with generalisations and stereotypes; it's how you use it is the potential problem. And of course, anyone who suggests cultures are equivalent suffers a serious ostrich mentality.

Flying Pigs: like many, you've got it wrong. True creativity is associated with Maths and Science; and rigour and -. I'll sit back now and wait for the plethora of nay sayers.

Ruamrudee
Yes, Ruamrudee is a long way from "town" and yes, there is some disorganisation, and interference and lack of support from the Fathers; but the students are polite and respectful, and teaching is generally relaxed. More like 85% Thai.
First tier?? Probably not, but as someone who has worked in Bangkok's Tier 1 schools previously, students will get an education on par or superior to the "top" schools, as seen in IB/AP results.

BKK schools
Interesting comments re various BKK schools. Having worked at a few of them, the most enjoyable ie students, work load is Ruamrudee; And after being there a few years, the salary is pretty good (over B100,000 plus provident fund). Interestingly, the IB results are "usually" the best around.

salary
First of all, clarify if you're referring to nett or gross incomes; next, is housing provided?
I am in my 9th year in Bangkok (not at ISB or NIST) and take home B125,000/mth and have B25,000/mth in super. Rent is B15,000/mth. One can't complain.

On the contrary; whilst he did seem to have too much time on his hands, most of his contributions were considered and on the mark. Hope it's not censorship.

I was going to write a post defending Psyguy, but realised anyone capable of writing scuh logical, thoughtful contributions doesn't need me to defend him.

Although it's been a few years, I've taught at both schools.
APIS is on a beautiful campus, out of town with nice students. There were significant after class expectations.
MEF was poorly run with poor students. However, the location within Istanbul was worth it.
It's a toss of the coin; but I'd go with the better package. If forced to choose - MEF.

MEF
Belly,
I worked there about 8 years ago. Istanbul is a fascinating city with many opportunities; the school location is great and the on-site housing is just adequate to good, depending on which apartment you get.
Whilst the students have foreign passports, the reality is that most of them are 'Turkish" with poor attitudes; resources are limited and the decision making is autocratic.
In spite of this, I'd recommend the experience.

It may be acceptable; but, it is still incorrect.
