Is this 'The American International School of Abu Dhabi' - AISA, or 'American International School'. There is a pretty big difference. AISA (ESOL School group) is decent and a good stepping stone. AIS isn't as good and depends on your background

Thank you for this post. I refuse to debase Psyguy on this. 10 years in three countries in the ME and have enjoyed every year, every country, every school, every experience...the good, the bad, and the ugly.

I am leaving the ME at the end of this year and while excited about a new region and new opportunities, I will be sad to go and will miss many things about here.

I feel sorry for people who were steered away from this region b/c of posts on this forum where opinions have expressed like facts and pictures have been painted that do not reflect everyone's reality!

American Community School. - Great school...Tier 1. Kids are amazing, good extra-curr programs. Would jump at the chance to work here.

RAHA - Not a tier 1 school but an ok school to get experience.

Abu Dhabi is an easy place to live with lots going on and generally good salaries although I'm not sure about Raha.

Good live-in will cost around 2000 dirhams per month and you pay visa costs. Not sure about live-out that you don't sponsor.

Everyone here with kids have Nannie from Philippines. Easy to do and easy to bring with you if you jump through the right hoops.

Al Reef is further from Abu Dhabi than the school. This is a developing area but not much out there right now.

ISR Reviews are ofter written by people who are leaving a school and often leaving b/c it hasn't worked out for them or they are not happy with something. I have worked at two schools that I have enjoyed and the majority of the faculty are really happy but have a couple of bad reviews...and everyone on staff can tell you who wrote them.

We are leaving AD after 5 years and 10 in the region. It has been great for us here but depends what you are looking for. What surprises most people is how easy AD is and how much like home it can be. there is lots to do, lots going on and good International teachers community. Doesn't have the culture a place like Egypt or Jordan (or Asian countries) would have but easy to travel and experience that as well.

British School Al Khubairat is the best British School in AD. British International SChool is newish and off to a good start (I am in the American system here). SChools will and should share their package here. AD is a good place and BISAD would be a good experience and I suspect it has a pretty solid package. I would certainly look in to it. There are also a number of other schools here if there was only one position for you at BISAD, you could explore other schools for your partner. This is not uncommon here.

From an admin perspective, if you have a good teacher coming to you with someones CV that they recommend, it carries a lot of weight for many reasons. If you know someone at a school that you really want to go to and they can speak to your strengths as a person and candidate, USE THEM!

I have friends that teach with ADEC. Some love their job and wouldn't go to a regular IS other can't run fast or far enough! It is really a crap shoot with ADEC.
