Library/Media Specialists & Recruitment Fairs

Post by JB »

I've been an elementary teacher for 15 years and have taught at AISK in Poland for 3 years. I've just gotten my Library/Media endorsement here in the states, and am off to the Search Fair in Cambridge to try to land my first Library/Media job. Any suggestions or words of advice from you experienced Librarians out there?

You might want to contact Barney Lathem in Trinidad. A library media position is immediately available there.

Check the listings on cois.org and tie online. There are more positions than qualified candidates for some of the specialist jobs. ie. you shouldn't have too many problems.

YOu might also want to look at smaller schools where you could be a teacher-librarian if you'd like to have some classroom time as well. It can be a big transition from full time class to full time library (which is what I did... ). Consider also if you want to be part of a larger library team or if you really want to be the sole resource for an entire K-12 programme. How many hats are you willing to wear? If you are the only person in the library for K-12 you will be called on to decide resource and budget issues for senior sciences as well as primary reading needs. You may also be teaching research skills or plagiarism awareness to high school as well as story hour for wee ones. Good luck!

(You may wish to read the review of the school in Port of Spain, Trinidad on this site before applying there :? )
