In Asia - Dont want to go back to the West - International School - Hlep

My first post, please be nice!

I to work at an International School and in business in Asia - Thailand for not and all positions seem to want a PGCE or masters in education or some teaching qualification. Now I'm not from the UK so PGCE is something I can't get. Masters in ED is way too expensive and I don't know any other equivalent qualifications other than the teach now - American one at 6500USD which I have not yet seen any UK school accept.

So my question is for someone who doesn't want to go back to their "home country" or can go to "the UK" and get a teaching degree, what options are accepted in Asia? I hear Nottingham PGCEi = 6000USD can be enough but there is no teaching practicum, Sunderland has a one but it’s 9000USD.

My current qualifications: TEFL + Bachelor of Business + 3 years of teaching experience in private academy

Please let me know all the options I am DESPERATE! I have literally no idea what to do. I want the teaching practicum to get better as a teacher but i also want the job. It’s as if though I have to invest 9000 USD in the Sunderland one myself which is a tough to pay, but if i get the American one - 65000USD, I’m not sure if ill be accepted in the international schools.

Please help!!

Are you a non-native speaker?

Generally licensure from US/CAN/OZ/NZ/UK is good enough for international schools. If you get fully licensed in the US you can get QTS with England anyway.

They do typically want two years' experience in your home country though. This may be circumvented if you have maths or physics but I doubt it will be the case for business.

Business (+econ) teachers tend to be in short supply at the moment.

Contact a bunch of schools and see what they can do for you. Some may offer you a job while you do your iPGCE. I've known a few people do that. Be flexible on location (China?), and you'll be golden.

Yes, right now China seems like the only option - the pay is great and hours too. I've heard both good and bad things so I have no idea. I wanted to try Vietnam but who knows. I've I really want this to be a career I feel like doing a Sunderland pgce is the way to go as its very good for the application and resume.

You can do a PGCE even if you are not a a UK Citizen.
There are ITs working in BSs with US credentials including the DC credential (Teach Now ITT/EPP).

Uni. Buckingham has an MA Edu. for £3,675. A Masters in Edu is generally more accepted than a PGCEi as a working qualification.
UPe has a M.Ed thats about USD$4K, and provides the equivalent benefits of an IBEC certificate.

The field experience requirement with Sunderland would provide you the possible option of obtaining the HK Registered status (Professional grade) credential.
Field experience rarely adds to or benefits practice, its not really going to make you a better IT above what teaching in of itself does. Youre just as likely to improve your practice asking your leadership for a mentor. Field experience is primarily evaluative not instructional.

You can pursue QTS through the AO pathway for about £3K through TES or you could obtain the MA Provisional (Entry grade) credential in Business (5-12) for about USD$300 in testing and application fees. You can do the two required exams remotely (online) without requiring travel.
If all youre just looking for a certificate, ACSI could provide you a 2 year certificate for USD$75.

A friend just did the Buckingham MA and said it was pretty easy. Sounds like a good option if you just want a MA Edu.
