virtual teaching positions in USA?

Post by TeachnTravel »

Anyone know of any teaching vacancies in the USA taught virtually and which can be taught from home not actually located in the school? I'm elementary/secondary with history and English as middle/high school teachables. I also am fluent in French and am almost completed my special education specialist credential. I'm also interested in where I may find these vacancies posted online.
Cheers.

I worked for the Minnesota Virtual Academy before I came overseas. It's a program called K-12. It was affiliated with a public school district, so in effect I was hired by the district, but I lived and worked from my home a couple hours away. I was the special ed teacher for the Twin Cities, so i did a combination of virtual teaching/consulting and some home-based visits for students that had more significant needs. It was a pretty sweet deal. The K-12 company operates in several states, some independently and some affiliated with school districts, in effect it was public schooling done at home. Hope that helps.

K12 is just a provider. They work with various districts across states to provide virtual DE for districts that dont want to go through the expense of creating their own program. You must be credentialed with each individual state DOE to work with students in public/maintained DSs across multiple states in the states that K12 serves. They usually advertise on job sites like Indeed, etc. You will also find them on various DS and DE HR sites belonging to various districts. It might be wise to start your search there.

You stated USA in your post but you may also want to look at Pamoja Education they are probably more well known for their virtual IBO program in IE but they also provide IGCSE and A* programs.
There are also a number of "chain" ISs in IE that recruit for virtual ITs.

As PsyGuy said, it was affiliated with a public school district, so I was, in effect, an employee of that school district. Families can uses K-12 independently--for MN, because it was public school affiliated, all the materials and computer were free to families (I'm not sure if it's the same), and we had to participate in things like MAP testing as required by public schools.

Families may be able to use K-12 freely but edus cant hang out a shingle and get a job directly with K-12. Even in the DSs/ISs that K-12 manages directly its always a separate and independent entity. It means your still browsing HR and job boards for district/LEA positions, just ones for virtual DTs/ITs.
