Capitalisation of degrees? I'm confused

Post by TeacherGal »

Yes, I've Googled but still unsure.

In the sentence below is 'master's of education' correctly written with an apostrophe and no capitalisation?

I graduated with a master’s of education from The University of Sydney.

The correct way to spell master’s degree is with the apostrophe, and with a lower case m.
The s in master’s indicates a possessive (the degree of a master), not a plural.

However, if you’re speaking of a specific degree, you should capitalize both Master & Education (Master of Education) and avoid creating a possessive.

You could say:
"I graduated (with) a Master of Education from The University of Sydney" or "I obtained my Master of Education from The University of Sydney" or "I was awarded a Master of Education from The University of Sydney"

No apostrophe, capitalize Master and Education, "I graduated with a Master of Education from The University of Sydney".

I was a bit confused about the same when I updated my CV years ago.
What Heliotrope says is correct.
