National Board Certified Teacher (NBCT)
National Board Certified Teacher (NBCT)
Does anyone know how respected national board certification is in the international circuit? It's kind of a big deal in the US, but I'm wondering if it's worth the money and effort if my goal is to be more marketable to international schools.
Response
Only if the recruiter/HOS also is also an NBCT.
NBCT even in the US is mostly a scam. The implication is that peers (that have moved out of the classroom) and leadership know what makes a good DT based on the performance of a highly staged portfolio. The NBCT doesnt actually authorize you or license you to do anything, it requires a state credential to have any validity. The benefits are two fold in the US, 1) Some DSs give a stipend or bonus for having an NBCT and 2) It facilitates mobility between states, as the process for NBCT DTs is easier. Its a nightmare for DTs who have a large number of credential areas, you have to go through the process for each subject area.
In IE its worth a bullet point under certifications, but its not likely to have much utility unless the recruiter HOS is a strong believer or advocate.
