School Hours/Working Hours -survey

Post by splendid »

I would like to hear what the working hours are for different schools - what time are you expected to arrive and time you can leave at the end of the day. Thank you!

The longest was 7am-6pm but it was a boarding IS and I lived on the grounds and it wasnt classes all day. The average was 8am-3pm but meetings or ASPs would make that longer. The shortest was my bank day at an IS where I started at 9pm and ended at 1PM, my prep period was first period of the day but I had lunch duty with my mentor year class, which had I not had I could have left before just before noon. My longest day was a full day of classes, no preps, just lunch and a mentor period, then an ASP, then a meeting and then exam prep for 2 hours. I didnt get done until 8pm.

Its hard to describe the typical day, in general ITs first through last period is typically 8am-4:00pm, and faculty have some time period before first period that they must be on site and usually cant leave until some time after student dismissal. Those periods are between 10min-60min. Its not uncommon to have a shifting daily schedule. Some days you might have half or more of your day with prep periods and some days you might not have any, the daily average for the week is 1-2 prep periods a day. You also have anywhere between 30min-60min for lunch. Its not uncommon to have a class/mentor/homeroom period of around 30min. Which could be some kind of meeting or duti for those without mentor/homeroom classes. Usually core subject ITs have a mentor period and enrichment/specialist ITs have some other duti or meeting (which might include CO-class/mentor/homeroom duties).

Of course when you should and when you can arrive or depart can depend a lot on various organizational factors. If you need to unlock a door for class and your room is within direct proximity of leadership you probably need to be there on time, or leadership is going to notice your students milling around. If youre more removed from leadership and there isnt any pressure to arrive early you can probably push the expected arrival time to later, the same is true with departure times. If your not expected to be doing anything, and you dont have a lot of scrutiny and you can exit away from the student departure area you can more likely cut out when your room is empty. Excuses like you were in the faculty work room or library or media lab or well anywhere are easy enough excuses.

At my school we teach 5/8 periods (block schedule) and work 7:30-2:30 (plus some meetings after school).

My current school is 5/8 blocks in a 4 day cycle and a school day of 8:00 - 4:15 (class starts at 8:10 and finishes at 3:15).

How does a 4 day schedule work? Do students take 3 of a given class during that time?

We have a 4 day rotation--if Day 1 is a Monday, then Day 4 is Thursday and then Friday would be Day 1 again.

@mamava

That seems unnecessarily confusing...
