Adminstrative salaries

Post by Jasmine »

I was wondering what the salaries are like for administrators overseas. Obviously it will vary from school to school but does anyone know salaries of specific schools or what principals and VP's make in comparison to teachers? What about additional benefits? I am not sure how to go about getting this info without joining Search for their data bank?

The salary range is huge. Could start from 24K to a few that are over 100K. Different regions pay differently and have very different cost of living (COL). Remote locations, dangerous cities, less desirable places may have a better package. Larger, well established schools may also, but with that comes more competition. The difficult thing is that many schools do not list specifics of their admin. salary package on the SEARCH or ISS data bank.

Benefits are far ranging: most will provide some sort of housing or a housing allowance, some level of health insurance, some amount of shipping, and annual flights. From there the benefits are far ranging. They may or may not include-utilitites (not long distance calls), use of a car, LTD, life insurance, some sort of severence or US social security or the school may pay the local taxes, settling in allowance, PD funds, tuition for your kids (often limited to 2 kids), flights for your spouse/kids. A few schools even cover storage costs, flight for your college kid, cell phone.

You need to pay attention to COL and savings potential. What may seem a huge salary in Zurich may be eaten up with a very high COL. Conversly, some of the developing countries have a low COL where you can live a pampered lifestyle while still saving.

If the school has non profit status in USA, then you can visit 990 tax filings which list 5 highest paid staff members with their salaries.

You cannot find the top pay of all heads, but you can look up a specific school(that has US Non profit status) and then open a pdf that lists the pay of the Head and 5 highest paid faculty.

administrative fairs

Does anyone know if there are special job fairs for administrators or if they get hired at a teacher fair?

All three of these organizations post the admin positions they have been contacted about:

* Search Associates
* Council of International Schools
* International School Services

Simply go to each of their web sites and you can see which schools are searching for administrators. Some ask that you apply through the organization and others you contact the school directly.

Many international schools narrow a short list of candidates and then invite the final candidates into the school for a visit.
