How much of an impact does the director of a school have?

I am just finishing up my first year of international teaching. I am loving it!! However, there are rumors that the director of the school who I think is great might be making next year her last year and moving to somewhere new.

I really enjoy the school, but I am worried that the whole atmosphere could change with a new director.

So my question is, How much of an impact does a director of a school really have?

I really depends on the school and the situation. If you have a well-aligned board, a good director will make things better, and a weak director will usually make things worse - but on a temporary basis.

If the board isn't strong, a good director is usually only effective for a short period of time. That has, at least, been my experience.
