US Teaching Certification (Indefinite Hold?)

Post by samuraiwriter »

Does anyone have any information on a state in the US where professional teaching certificates never expire because an educator is overseas? Like, they go into some kind of limbo? I have an HOD who has tried to convince me that there is such a thing. I cannot imagine it!

As far as I know, all states either have "life" certificates. or certificates good for 4 years or so. I have never heard of a situation where they would put it on hold. My certificate is a blend - two areas are for life, the other for 4 years. I think the trend is going towards renewable (brings in a lot more money and allows for more background checks).

The state I have my US teacher's license in has allowed me to "suspend" it while I am overseas. When I choose to reinstate it, the time left until the original expiration date is then put down as a new expiration date and the clock begins ticking again. PM me if you want more info. or the name of the state.
