Yep, which is why it's a nonsense argument. But let's not feed him. Let him have the last word.

@Nutella
'Tourist Teacher' is a category containing a number of motivations, and in this case it still applies.

No, ITs are going to Kazakhstan or any other "stan" or a lot of other places to be tourist ITs.

@PSYGUY so you telling me that they hull up in their apartments/living area and not explore? Or not travel in their off time?
I get your point, but the lure to IT is living abroad. Well that and the money you can possibly make/save. You can also toss in the opportunity to work in a wonderful, advanced school but those are sometimes hit or miss. You have said it yourself, there are not many top tier 1 schools and those schools only hire from a small pool. Sot he vast majority of ITs are stuck with everything else. Speculation on your part for those new to the board/thread.

Some of them do, there are a lot of places in IE that there isnt anything to see, and what there is can be done ina weekend or two. I agree that "living abroad" is certainly one allure of IE, but its not the only one, lots of ITs do it because there isnt a demand for their field in DE back home, and many others are doing it for the financial gain. There are absolutely the explorers and the adventurers but for places like SE (France, Italy, Spain, etc.) a lot of ITs pursue those locations for the locations and the teaching is second. Ownership/leadership dont want those ITs.
Most if those ISs arent particularly advanced, they are managed by a lot of old school leadership types, though this is also good in that those leadership types arent constantly following whatever the newest pop.ed fluff some new organization is peddling. Its not all wonderful and advanced, the big thing in some of those ISs was the conversion from blackboards to white boards and that was a long time ago.
This is what happens with tourist IT they get the job and then they do the minimum, they are the first ones out the door at the end of the day, they are the least collaborative, and I could go on, but they are there to get a living vacation and/or better education for their kids, because their DS back in the states is a mess and this is the only way they can afford private/independent education. These teachers dust off old lessons and unless they are teaching school leaving level they can phone in their lessons, which of course gives them more time to maximize their Mediterranean lifestyle. ISs dont want those teachers, they avoid them like plague, because their just a resource suck on the IS. The problem with that is that tourist ITs can fake it for a 30 minute interview, so their isnt a lot an IT has to say that triggers their tourist teacher warning system.
