Thank you all for your replies. I, too, am teaching at a top school in Europe and all of my acquaintances are restricted to this part of the world. As we all know, there are several people like me with the much-needed certifications and experience when it comes to plum jobs in SE asia.
I want to save a bit and enjoy the sunny beaches and fresh food in the region.

Getting hired by top schools in SE asia
Apart from having the in-demand certifications and IB experience, What are some unconventional ways to apply to get noticed or even get hired by elite international schools in this region? BTW, what exactly is 'doing an ichiro?'
Since I don't have any acquaintances in this region, any insider information will be appreciated.
Thanks.

I would rather use mutual connections to contact the admin. As some posters said in the past, use your contacts at the desired school to pass on hard copies of your CV.
Having said that, if you have solid certifications coupled with ample IB/AP experience, you can directly contact them on Linked in giving a convincing reason why you would be a great addition to their school.

Master of Arts in Educational Technology (MAET) from Michigan State University (MSU) is a 30-credit course. It can be done fully online and is nationally accredited. A friend of mine did this and found it quite useful. The tuition is a bit expensive (about USD 800- per credit hour, I guess). Click on this link for more details.

Alternatively, you can do an inexpensive (also nationally accredited) master's online from Indiana uni @ Bloomington or one from Kansas state for about 15k.

You are spot on about UWC teachers. Some British teachers think that nobody else can teach the IB diploma better than them. The irony is that UWCSEA hires several newbies from UK universities and majority of their staff is British, which is contrary to the ethos of the UWC movement.
P.S. Don't we all know the disparity in the pedagogical research done in the UK and the good old US of A?

- Make a schedule that works and allows ample instructional time both for students and the teacher.
-Be approachable to students and staff.
- Evaluate your teachers consistently using a set of predetermined criteria.
- Don't just rely on feedback from department heads.
- Make sure the staff meetings are meaningful and use them as opportunities to discuss and listen, not just for reading the calendar of upcoming events.
- And most of all appreciate and celebrate success of your students, teachers, and staff.

There is a difference between a teacher with 2 yrs exp and one with, say 5 yrs. The IB subject average of a class taught by an inexperienced IB teacher is significantly lower than the world average, especially among math and sciences. This is why some established schools hire IB teachers with five or more years of exp, and most of the time, these people are usually experienced teacher couples or those with one or more dependents.
Also, single teachers are the ones who are waiting for the clock to tick 4, so that they can chase the opposite sex outside of school (you can relate to this quite well) and minimize their issues relating to boredom at home.
There might be exceptions, but a majority of the dedicated and result-oriented teachers are the married ones with stable private lives, be it teacher-couples or those with dependents.

I'm not sure how many of those single teachers with 2 yrs exp can add value to their new schools from Day 1 in comparison to the highly experienced teacher-couples.
I have seen many of them taking a year or two to really adjust to the teaching and learning and to truly understand the ethos of the school.
Also, at my past schools, the said teachers were the ones who most frequently broke the contract to satiate their adventure spirit in a new country.
So, in the short-term, single teachers would make more economic sense to a school and this has been said and wrote umpteen times.

International Schools in Australia
Are there any good (as in good students and good pay) international schools in Australia that offer the IB curriculum and also hire foreign teachers on a work visa?
I'm an American-certified math teacher with few years of IB experience.
Thanks in advance.

What is the best country and school in the middle-east?
I came to know that a few teacher-colleagues of mine are relocating to the middle-east for the next school year. I was wondering if there is a country out there that can offer good lifestyle and solid savings?
If yes, what countries and schools would you recommend? We are a teacher-couple (both certified and experienced in high-need subjects) and we would prefer an IB school. We're not much into shopping, but would love to go to the cinemas or travel around a bit. Of course, this question has been asked several times and if you don't mind, I would like to hear from teachers with genuine experiences or information from this part of the world.
Thanks a bunch!
