Re: Top Schools In Europe

Regards Switzerland - if you're with a non-working spouse and/or children, then you will struggle to save. This is a fact. Doesn't mean you can't have a nice life, but you won't also have significant, or any really, savings.

@psyguy - have you ever worked in CH?

Re: How do you get to work?

I met someone who worked in PNG and used to travel between campuses for meetings by helicopter, at least until it was getting shot at just a bit too much...

Re: Take it or wait for a better one.

@psyguy - if I give my word, and/or sign a contract, I keep it.

That's all there is to it.

Do I hope others do the same? Yes. Do I expect they always will? Sadly, no.

Am I happy? Yes.

Re: Take it or wait for a better one.

Do what @heliotrope suggested.

Don't do what @psyguy suggests - it's unethical, immoral and if a school were to act that way you would rightly be outraged.

Good luck.

Re: Beginning Of The End for China Foreign Teachers?

ROC - Republic of China (Taiwan)
PRC - People's Republic of China (China)

Easy enough.

The world, much of it, accepts Taiwan as its own place but also lets the PRC take a UN seat and agrees that the ROC should compete at the Olympics as Chinese Taipei.

Geopolitics and RealPolitik collide.

Re: Beginning Of The End for China Foreign Teachers?

PRC or ROC?

Seriously though, in terms of impact on schools and teachers I would think that it will vary greatly depending on how many Chinese students are enrolled in the school.

If none, then I think this could be a 'light touch' requirement. If, say 25% including Chinese on foreign passports, then it will be more stringent. If mostly Chinese students then it could be quite full on.

Been a while since I was there, and things do change quickly. I suspect as well that, right now, US passport holding teachers may have a harder time.

Re: 2nd most COVID country - Do I go?

All good points made above. They simply can't make you get on that plane and you know what your best choice is healthwise for your family.

Have you been in constant contact with the school? If so, then presumably this might not be a surprise to them.

If not then it is late to let them know but these are very mixed up times anyway...

Good luck with whatever you decide.

Re: and it continues

When I left China after a decade I really wanted a PSB agent to come up to me as I got into the car to go to the airport for last time, and hand me a dossier of all the places I'd been, all the drinks I'd had etc. etc.

Sadly, this didn't come to pass...

Re: and it continues

Don't underestimate the role of politics in this as well. Given the relations between the US and China right now it wouldn't surprise me to see the Chinese authorities making life difficult for incoming/returning US passport holders and the guanxi that US affiliated schools had may have taken a knock as well.

Re: Most Marketable Specialization for Music Teachers?

Try to avoid any legal ambiguity. Yes, that makes life harder, but so be it.

Orff training could be looked upon well by the IB schools.
