Any summer recruiting fairs?

Are there any summer recruiting fairs anywhere in the world? Which locations and orgs?

Re: Is only using Search Associates a mistake?

Confidential references done again? Even if I already had them submitted to the original Schrole? Oh my God, forget it.

Re: Is only using Search Associates a mistake?

Joining ISS-Schrole I believe is $75. Not too much but trying to keep expenses down. I really wonder if I should bother as I have a Search Associates membership and I'm directly contacting schools I'm interested in that are not with Search. Could it really be worth the $75? I know I may have come across a couple of big schools where people love to work and which no longer use Search.

Re: Is only using Search Associates a mistake?

When applying to Search vacancies received in automatic email updates is it best to click the 'Apli to this vacancy' embedded link or to contact them through the email address provided in the school's profile....or both?

Re: Is only using Search Associates a mistake?

It looks like ISS also has a teacher recruiting website separate from ISS-Schrole. I wonder why and what the difference is.

That's a very good question. I would be concerned about this. Because I bet the fee difference for the school is big and so a factor especially for small schools with a lean budget.

In the UK there is a law the you can't charge someone for the potential of them getting a job from you. So, there can be no fee. I wish it was the same for USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, essentially the world over.
So, lucky you chiliverde and if you know people who plan on signing up with Search Associates tell them to do it through the UK or use a UK address if they can. :)

Re: Is only using Search Associates a mistake?

It looks like ISS has a separate website from ISS-Schrole too. What's going on?
Am I going to have to redo my Schrole profile from scratch on ISS-Schrole?

Re: Is only using Search Associates a mistake?

It looks like Schrole has merged with ISS. Are there any advantages to this? Has anyone had any good or bad experiences with this?

Is only using Search Associates a mistake?

Is only using Search Associates a mistake or am I really missing out by not using other services? If yes, is it because of missing out on specific posted vacancies or just having my resume and profile activated with another service for potential employers to view. And if so, which other services should I be using? I've been teaching for 20 years and know of other services and have old accounts but with not an abundance of time I'm wondering which services I should focus my attention on.

Job security at international and state schools in Germany?

What job security can one hope for at international and state schools in Germany? I've heard of teachers with EU and non-Eu passports not having their contracts renewed at international schools after teaching at the school at least 3 years. They were not fired. They were just told their contracts were not being renewed.

Re: Feeling like I want to move my family back home

In what way do you feel a pull? What about returning to Europe instead of North America. If you're at a good school in Bangkok I would think your children would receive a great education and the cost of living would be inexpensive, you could have domestic help, etc. Lots of things to do?

Thames Pirate,
Is there anything you can tell me about the 'cursory checklist' you mention? Are there must-haves that people often overlook for their cover letter and/or resume you can share?

I've had two associates at SA check my resume and they said it was fine, and my cover letter too. I'd love to have more feedback but I guess here it's not possible.
