I actually find this forum really disappointing. For a FREE area to discuss various conditions at schools there's not a lot of activity at all. I've posted one or two threads but never got replies so only check in once every month or so now...

Yes that's waaaay plenty!! Speaking from experience and far less money, I've saved nicely over the last six months!
Alhough if you wanna live in a "real house" then you could spend a good portion of that a month on your rent.

All I know is that Prague had a looooooong line of people at the job fair I was at. It has a suprisingly good package for a European school. Don't know much of the inner workings but John Mikton the head of I.T. there is one of the leaders in the ECIS I.T. committee and is doing some good stuff there I.T. wise.
I'm working in HK at the moment and HKIS is highly thought of in the school circles and they have great salary scale and even better accomodation allowance (from what I hear around 3000USD a month) but I don't know anybody working there. Yet!

Didn't do enough research on Concordia Shanghai School.
This was just to arrange an interview but after many questions they asked if myself and my fiance were married. We said no, not yet. They said "Well sorry, we won't take you unless you're married". See ya.
Since then heard stories about their "ethos" and glad we didn't even get a look in!

Of maybe the 30 schools that were there, I would say a third had I.T. positions with one or two being a head of department position. I would say in the overall picture outside of the job fairs, i.t. teaching positions are quite abundant. Only looking on a few Asian school websites there are i.t. positions open in all of them.
Oh yes, that's one thing I forgot to mention. We went to every school website before the fair to see if they posted the jobs there. If they did we contacted them with our stuff and said we would be at fair.

I only have experience of Search Job Fairs (Bangkok specifically).

At the time of our interviews I was not a qualified teacher but had worked in an International school in I.T. dept and had taught 6th grade I.T. as emergency cover for 6 months. Although that doesn't matter with a lot of schools, you need the paper work. Luckily I.T. is marketable and I was on my way to getting the university "stuff".
You will find schools that may take on your wife as teaching aide or another position if that is what you want to do. They will make it work if you fit the teaching position they need and they know that you will be able to live financially ok on your salary. You will get offers I'm sure, but realistically maybe not as much as the single guy or the married teaching couple.
Having said that, choose wisely with the schools that offer. It's exciting when the offers come in but unfortunately they all may not be excellent schools to work in.
We met a married teaching couple who had an autistic kid. Not one job offer by the end of the fair after numerous interviews. It all got shut down in their faces after the son was mentioned. It was horrible and I felt very sorry for them. If schools don't have the support or they know the area around the school don't have the support for special needs, it's a no go.
So at the end of the day if it works for the school you're in with a chance. Good luck it can be an exciting experience but very trying and tiring.

Unfortunately or fortunately international schools still have to fill spaces up until June with a couple of late fairs taking place.

Myself and my wife flew from Germany to Bangkok for a job fair!
Thankfully we got a job but we learned a lot at it.
1. Keep your spirits up no matter what. If that school that you really wanted isn't contacting you straight away, don't fret.
Maybe they won't, it's not meant to be, another school will take their place.
2. Move quickly away from people bragging about how many interviews they have lined up and the job offers they have on the table. This will happen and it's loathsome.
3. Often when asked a question about myself I would often include my wife in the answer (ie. "I know my wife has a similar attitude in her classroom etc.)
4. Oh yeah, as mentioned, laptop is essential. For checking up that school you never heard of who want to interview you. My laptop fell off the hotel bed on our first night. The loss was immense!
