Re: one page or two page resume?
Hi

I'm going to the London fair for the first time this January. Thanks for all the information you provided on this topic. I have a question. The candidate update states you have to bring a two sided A4 resumé. I've streamlined mine and it fits on one side of A4. Do I have to add a second page? I would then have to add a lot more detail and irrelevant professional experience not related to teaching which i feel would distract and not have as much impact as the one page CV.
What do you think?
What you do is entirely up to you. There is no right or wrong way, however you think you can give yourself the best chance of catching someone's attention.

If you do decide to have a one page cv, you could put some pictures of yourself on the reverse that show you at your best. Obviously, make sure you use good quality paper so that pictures don't show through the paper when recruiters are looking at your cv!

Any recent updates on this school? I am interested in applying for a position there. I have read the paid reviews complaining of the previous admin, have things improved?

If you are looking to complete your NQT year in the UK, you should be aware that only positions that last for the entire term (September to December, January to April, April to July) will count to your NQT qualification, and that is only if the school you are in agrees to put you through the programme. Unless you manage to land a long term supply position, it will be difficult for you.

Essentially you have to 'pass' the term and have a mentor in the school who assesses you and signs off your paperwork. You need to complete three of these terms to be awarded qualified teacher status in the UK.

However, if you are just looking to gain experience in the classroom without completing the qualification then things will be easier for you.

I've interviewed with two schools and been offered two positions, I have turned one down and I am still considering the other position.

Vientiane International School

Does anybody have any news on VIS? Or Vientiane generally?

I'm thinking of applying but I am concerned that there seems to be an awful lot of jobs available.

Is it a good place to work?

Question for a recruiter

Hi,

I hope someone can help me. I wondered how recruiters would feel about being contacted via LinkedIn?

I have a specific upper tier school that I am interested in because of personal reasons.

Do you think it would be wise to contact the admin directly via LinkedIn or to go through mutual connections to the admin?

Thanks.

Thank you for all your replies.

So to check, I am ok to say I am IB trained after completing a cat 1 workshop in my programme?

I think I have pretty much decided to move on at the end of my contract so I am going to start getting my search profile ready for after the summer break.

When can you say you are IB 'trained'?

Hey all,

I have been wondering if there is a consensus about when you can say you are IB 'trained' or is there personal interpretation in this?

Is it after working in an IB school? Is it after completing a category 1 workshop? Or category 2 or 3?

I'm currently completing my first year in the IB system and I have been to a category 1 workshop (I hope category 2 next school year). Will it be ok for me to consider myself IB trained when/if I apply to move on at the end of my contract?

Thanks,

The smurf.

Best paying schools

So, leaving aside the regional variations of cost of living, in a direct comparison of salaries which schools pay the most?

I heard you can earn over $100,000 in the middle east, is this true? It seems a bit absurd!
