Greetings!!
My problem is I have expensive bikes (many thousands of dollars) and Korea over the last few years has gone bike crazy building thousands of kilometers of trails. The problem is the cost of importing bikes makes them very expensive there, and there doesn't seem to be much of a domestic industry (maybe the only thing they dont' make)
Thanks!!

Shipping
Greetings!!
I feel like the kid in class that bugs the teacher with a thousand questions. Oh well, I guess that's what the forum is for.
One of our big considerations is bringing along stuff past our bag allotement (which seems to be one bag on a lot of airlines, not the two I was used to when we were in Asia before). It seems we have three options:
1. Pay extra for any extra bags and have them with us (expensive).
2. Send them a few days earlier (or maybe weeks) on an air cargo shipment (less expensive, but have to deal with customs and pickup).
3. Have them crated and put on a boat a few months ahead of time (cheapest, but most hassles).
What would we be bringing? I and my family are avid cyclists and thus there would probably be bikes (in proper cases), perhaps hockey and other sporting equipment, some general teaching materials (1-2 boxes) and some small household stuff to make our place homey.
Any suggestions? We have about $1000-$2000 to play with.
Thanks!!

Airline Internet Booking Companies
Greetings!!
Thank you for all that answered my questions in regards to credit cards. My next question is in regards to airlines. Do most people book flights directly with the airlines, or do they use things like Cheap Flights, Expedia, etc.. Also how reliable are these afore-mentioned companies in regards to flights to and within Asia and other parts of the world?
Thanks!!

Credit Cards Internationally
Greetings!!
Thank you so much for those that responded to may last e-mail concerning banking in Korea. My next question is in regards to credit/debit cards. This could be for people in Korea or any other country.
Do you use your cards from home (where they can be used) or do you get cards from your new country?
Thanks!!

Banking in Korea
Greetings!!
Just wondering if anybody has experience with banks in Korea that will also facilitate and allow us to have access to our accounts back in Canada. I was thinking that HSBC would be a good choice, but wondering what others have found.

Greetings!!
Well, it looks like we'll be going to Korea, and despite my mother's insinuation that "we are out of our mind", we have lived there before and realize this is what they do every 1-2 years when they run out of money or food. I have checked both the Canadian and US Embassy sites and they are not reporting anything out of the ordinary, yet if one were to listen to the news reports we are on the verge of a nuclear holocaust (it sure was good that Rodman made it out safely )
Thanks!!

Hi PsyGuy,
I think we are agreed on the family thing (My family by the way). In regards to the AP scores, at the time they were considered extraordinary by those in the AP Euro world (perhaps they were only comparing US scores), but it is quite possible that all the international schools have caught up to those rates, so I won't quibble.
Thanks!!

Thanks Psyguy,
While I would agree with you on the family thing, I don't know if its me. I have taught AP Euro and had graduation rates of 93 and 89%, which I figure are pretty good scores. I also built an MUN program in a public high school that won at Cornell twice and came second at MIT/Boston U, so I think my ability to motivate in and out of classroom is fine. My references are good and my interviews (and I know when I do a bad interview) were fine.
I'll just keep plugging away, but we may have to wait for next year and just chalk this year up to experience.
Thanks!

Hi Shadowjack,
That was my strategy in Cambridge, but many looked at my CV (despite the fact that I had middle school experience, both inside and outside the classroom) and simply labelled me a "high school" guy based on my last 13 years. It does get quite frustrating and I think it might have to do with all the IB emphasis with the MYP.
Just my thoughts!
Thanks!!
