One more question as I prepare...

One more question: If I am at a US school now and it's a good one, but one that I would leave for the right international school, how do you recommend I handle listing a reference (or ideally not) from this school on a reference sheet at the fair? I understand that international schools like references to be available to speak to them quickly if an offer is forthcoming at a fair, but I don't want anyone at this school to know I am considering leaving until I am certainly leaving. It's a school that has one year contracts and I will stay if I need to, but don't want them to be alerted to my hope to leave if an international school contacts them with a reference check during the fair. I have other great references from previous schools/employers on Search and on my applications. Will international schools understand my reluctance to share a reference from my current school? It's not a school with a lot of turnover so them getting tipped off to my potential decision to leave would not serve me well internally at the school.

Re: London Here I Come

I've still heard nothing from no one. I am hoping someone comes calling some time the week of Jan 2 or Jan 9.

London Here I Come

When is everyone getting to London? Want to have a candidate soirée? I am ready to rock this mf out!

Also, do schools usually go into MIA mode now through the end of the year? And if that's the case, does that mean that with only one week to go before the fair when they get back from break that they will be less likely to want to do video sessions the week before the fair, as they are probably going one way or the other and may as well wait until the fair? As always, thoughts and insights much appreciated.

Oh, PsyGuy, I hope you don't get anything before having to go to a fair. Are you up for a date in London? I need to meet you!

@eion_padraig

I can't utilize my associate as a resource, as this person is non-responsive. Clearly you have never had an associate like this. I am doing all that I can with the resources that are available to me.

I understand that not everybody is in the same boat, did I say otherwise? You don't have to rub it in and be smug.

@helloiswill

Search is not what you make of it. There are associates who simply do not respond to calls and email. That's their MO. You may have gotten one that actually sees himself or herself as a counselor to you, but, girl, that is the exception to the rule.

Re: All Alone Out Here?

I have applied to jobs everywhere. Either these schools aren't on the horse yet or they must not like my name. Dayum!

All Alone Out Here?

I have now applied to 28 jobs listed on Search in the last 70 days. I have gotten two responses taking a pass on me, which is fine, but other than those, no human responses via email showing interest or rejecting me. All of the job posts that I applied to are still listed. I am confused why a school would post for an in-demand position (based off of reading this forum) like mine in October and let it hang for this long without at least just emailing me no thanks. Am I all alone in this very quiet black hole of non-responsiveness? Very isolating feeling. About half of the jobs I've applied to were Oct and Nov. The rest have been in December! I have 15 years experience. 10 years IB. Good Lawd!!!!

Position Disappears

Hi everyone,

First time writer, long time reader. Your insights have been invaluable to me as I set out on my first journey into teaching abroad. I have a question about a situation, which I ran into recently. Basically, a school that I am interested in, and which is going to the London fair, as am I, posted a Definite Opening in October for the position/role I am searching for both on SearchAssociates and its own website. I applied well before the deadline, which was in early November. I never heard back, but unlike the other schools that I have applied to before then and since then, the job listing disappeared both on SearchAssociates and the school's website about two days after the job application deadline. The job is one of about 15 I have applied to in the last sixty days on all habitable continents except for Australia. But it's the only one that has disappeared a day or two after the listed application deadline. I've also noticed that many SearchAssociates schools don't have deadlines like this one did. Do you think the school hired someone in two days, or hired someone in the period before the deadline? Or could they just be taking the listing down right after their deadline and getting their ducks in a row (deciding who to interview at the fairs) before the fairs in January (both of which they are schedule to attend as of today)? I am a very organized person, and I generally want to know the lay of the land before I head into the hornet's nest in London so I have a smart plan of attack. This disappearing position has thrown a bit of a question mark into my London outreach strategy. Thoughts my good colleagues? Thank you again for your great insight on this site. I look forward to meeting many of you in London in a few weeks, and I think if I can I will write a live play by play like one of this site's contributors did a few years ago for his/her experience in Bangkok.
