Ummmm...Unless I have lost command of the English language your response implies that you did study from the ETS prep questions, which would mean you did not 'take it cold.' Everyone who takes this test studies from the ETS test prep questions so how are you better than everyone else?

Do you really find it wise to encourage people to not study for a $450 test, plus traveling expenses if necessary?

If you already have the Masters in Admin and Leadership, I recommend the Washington DC route. I just completed my certification through this method. The test is heavy, but if you have already studied admin and leadership, you should be okay. However, you DO need to study because the language will be written from a US perspective and about US education topics. The test is available all over the world through ETS.

@psyguy.... C&I would lead you to Curriculum Coordinator, then to Academic Director, of course there are other paths in IT, as in any private profession.

My suggestion, do a Masters program that allows for advancement, i.e., something in curriculum and instruction, or admin leadership, alongside an initial licensure track, if possible. That is, if you want to stay in international education.

And psyguy, why do you keep insisting that a 99 year license, without having to do PD, is not a "lifetime" certificate? Do you know any teachers out there that are around 130 years old? Put the booze down and stop drunk posting.

Every time I have suggested Missouri, psyguy discredits it, yet it is the easiest route if you have the experience. I'm glad it worked and hope others find out about it before something changes.

On another note, I just received my Admin license through Washington DC, if anyone is interested in going that route as well, I can provide assistance.

The exchange rate in Colombia is awful right now and has been for the past year. I was able to save about $30,000 over two years, but that would be below $20,000 with the current exchange rate. Most, if not all schools, are gonna pay you in Colombian pesos with perhaps a US dollar bonus to your foreign bank account.

Thanks for the info, but I am speaking specifically about those schools that begin in February or March and end in December. Northern Hemisphere schools end in June, usually, so how would a person transition from a Northern Hemisphere school to a Southern Hemisphere school if they are still under contract until June?

I feel okay about the exams, not the internal assessments. They were atrocious. The whole school is aware of how underachieving this year's seniors were. I felt like I was teaching 7th graders. I am looking forward to this year with the new IA method in my content area. I am not worried at all about it affecting my contract renewal.

I am thinking that the list of schools on the southern hemisphere schedule, meaning the school year begins in March, is small in comparison to the number on the northern hemisphere schedule. Does anyone know of a typical scenario of being hired by one of the southern hemisphere schedule schools while currently working at a northern hemisphere school? How is the schedule difference rectified in terms of contracts?

If you qualify, it is good for 99 years. You don't have to live in Missouri. Google the Missouri Department of Education and search for.qualifications for teaching licensure.

Maybe the 180 days of student school days stems from the need for parents to have kids working on the farm in the summer time.... could be wrong, though. Now, it is mandatory for teacher and admin to gain their sanity back before the cycle begins again the next year,-).

Yes, that's what I figured. It's different from US certificates that are age and subject specific. The QTS letter states that I have no age or subject restrictions.
