Re: Breaking Contracts

Well, will be writing up a review of this school which is based in Kuala Lumpur. After asking the question to HR, I was asked to speak to the HOS who kindly informed me that my contract is not going to be renewed, which finishes at the end of December. When asked why the response was that I'm not committed to the school and a member of staff complained to him. WOW

Re: Breaking Contracts

@Hellotrope/@PsyGuy.

Thanks for your insight, please note I do have my contract sitting right in front of me know. It clearly spells out the termination aspect, but as PsyGuy wrote, its the principal that I have already completed a two contract and they are asking for penalties that are wrong as they aren't honouring the terms in the first contract, I haven't cost the school anything in renewing, have had to pay myself to get new visas as our family passports got renewed so hence needed to pay from them myself. My contract does finish in December but recruitment happens at any time of the year and leaving can too as long as you give six months notice. Why should they ask me to reimburse for shipping and airfares coming into the country as I have completed the first two-year contract? Can understand they don't pay for airfares leaving and also shipping. The two months salary without pay is steap too. My Primary Head, HOS, Line leaders have already filled out confidential reference through ISS and SA, so wouldn't be asking them for reference again. Futures school will doubt contact them but at what stake do you let schools get away with this type of behaviour.

Re: Breaking Contracts

Thanks,

For your feedback, some have asked if this ie terms and agreement is written in the contract, which it is so as some would state its clear in black and white. So the only course is to talk to the HOS, or if you wanting to renew that you try and negotiate different terms and conditions for leaving. My biggest issue is that they shouldn't be claiming airline tickets and shipping for a contract that is already completed and that you have honoured. Can understand airfares and shipping when you leave they shouldn't pay for (which your new school would cover).

Will update you all once have spoken to HOS and will no doubt write a review on this school in due course.

Breaking Contracts

So I have currently worked at this school for 4 years now and this is a renewed contract, I have approached my HR department and have asked them what are the penalties if breaking the contract, please note we have to give 6 months at this school and can't leave until the end of a term, this seemed fair at the start but 6 months is crazy and when looking currently for jobs, most are only giving a term, some are advertising and from the cut of date of the applications to the start date is about 3 months or less. So HR has said if you break your contract and don't give the 6 months notice you need to pay 2 months full salary, airfares coming into the country for you and your family (even though this is renewed contract) they will not owner the first contract, all visas and dependent passes, shipping allowance entering the country and you will forfeit you shipping allowance when you leave. I agree with some but paying back airfares and shipping for a renewed contract is a bit much. I could be wrong here and people will say you had a choice when you signed the contract. This will cost someone around 11,000 pounds just to break the contract.

Would be interested to hear what other teachers/school do if you are thinking about breaking a contract. Please note the first contract was for 2 years and currently this contract finishes in December. Also, the way they will get their money back is by taking it out of your school pension fund so you are s@#$%.

Masters in Educational and Leadership

Which would be the best/cheapest place to do the above course online. Have looked at Universities in the USA, UK, NZ and Australia. Prices vary and seem's NZ and Australia are the most expensive.

Hong Kong and its pollution.

We currently living in SA and to be honest the haze hasn't been that bad. Wife sometimes has a little sinuse problem but not that bad. We have a young family so would like to know what the pollution is like in HK. How was this year, reports say that this year HK has 150 days of sunshine. Is the pollution really that bad?

Re: Any Experience with GEL (Global Edu. Logistics)?

Had same problem about two years ago, felt something was fishing after a couple of weeks. Guy tells the same stories and wouldn't trust him. Glad someone made a police report on this guy sad when people fall for him and especially for people overseas.

Keep us posted

Five year rules stills apply at Tamagawa, most Japanese run schools are now using the five year rule even if they are stating they are international.

Re: Singapore

Now accommodation is not furnished which is a huge surprise as this is a misunderstanding maybe from both sides. Get free accommodation in an area I don't choose and have been told I have to pay to fully furnish it. What people think about this, have asked just to give me an allowance but this will not be possible. Where I can find a small place that is already furnished understand you would need to pay deposit etc, but in my eyes in the long run would be cheaper. Airfare is only provided for me not my wife. Shipping allowance now both ways but school year is a crazy 47 weeks seriously what the ....
