Jobs filled at Bangkok fair?

Hi,

We are recruiting with SA, and we really want to land jobs in Asia (preferably East Asia/SE Asia); however, the cost of flying to Bangkok for the fair was too much for us. As stiff as the competition for jobs is, it seems like schools in Asia would have their pick and fill all open positions at the Bangkok fair. Are there still many jobs in this region left after the Bangkok fair?

Thanks so much!

Re: Ichiro examples

PsyGuy-- Oh, yes! I understood. I just meant that the Ichiro itself could come off as too casual.

Re: Ichiro examples

Thank you PsyGuy! I would love to see or hear about examples from others! This seems like a bit of a double-edged sword: being too formal could come off stiff/bland, or being a bit out of the box/creative might seem too casual. I’ll have to put a lot of thought into this!

Hi! I am new to the IS recruitment scene. What is an "Ichiro?" Thanks so much!

US taxes?

Hi,

I currently live in the US and I am preparing to teach abroad for the first time for the 2019/2020 school year. I've tried reading about the Foreign Earned Income Tax exclusion, but I'm still a bit confused. Is the Foreign Earned Income Tax exclusion dependent on how many days I've spent in the US during a calendar year? If so, since I am going to be living in the US up until August 2019, does that mean I will pay US taxes on foreign earned income for all of 2019? Any advice/experience is greatly appreciated!

Thank you.

This is really stumping me. I caught Elizamena's reference, but I'm still lost on "chewing the fat." Maybe if I knew some crawfish or oysters who could tell me the answer I would be better off. I'm not from Texas, but, you know, Shadylane, "Texas Never Whispers" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4WOIgI__968

Hi Migansh! We are using Search Associates, and are hoping to attend their job fairs. I think Thailand or Vietnam would be very cool! I think most of all, we just want a supportive school environment where we are trusted as professionals.

Thank you for the response, shadylane. I'm not really sure what you mean; I'm familiar with the phrase "chewing the fat" meaning to have a conversation. Could you clarify how that is a stepping stone? You mention you have colleagues "from that time;" where was your first job? Thanks!

Marriage certificate required?

Hi everyone,

My partner and I are currently applying to international schools jobs for the first time. We have been together for almost a decade and definitely plan to spend the rest of our lives together, but we are not officially/legally married. I realize schools in the ME will require a marriage certificate for us to live together, but is this a requirement in other locations? Has anyone had experience being hired as a teaching couple without an official marriage certificate? All in all, if we need to have a courthouse marriage it won't be the end of the world, but it's also not something we care too much about unless we have to do it.

Thank you!

Where was your first IS job?

Hi everyone,

I am interested to know where people were hired for their first international school job. It seems like a bit of a catch-22 because all the schools want teachers who already have international experience, so where do you get your foot in the door?

My partner and I (no kids) are applying to international schools, but we have only worked in the U.S. We have significant travel experience (25+ foreign countries) including a fellowship where we studied in Asia. We are experienced teachers (9 years in the classroom), certified, and have Master's degrees. We teach/have taught English, History, Special Education, and Film. We have spent a lot of time researching, and are very interested in posted positions in South Korea, Romania, and Singapore. Has anyone here been hired in one of those places without international school experience?

Thanks so much!
