Currency and Commitment to Teachers

Hello Psy Guy, It would seem that changing a contract would be breaking it so it would seem then the teacher would have recourse to bow out and not be blacklisted, should a school change such a main part of a contract.
Thank you.

Re: Recruiting time?

Very helpful. Thank you for your information and the insight. I will look into all of those and make sure I diversify the counsellor knowledge. Post secondary admissions would certainly be an area I need to spend time in and seems like something one layers with experience. I have been looking at the college counselling as something to fear internationally, but with the tools you mentioned, I can likely figure it out. Naturally, I want the students to have someone who is already able to help them. It would seem it is something one learns as one goes and supplements with some of the excellent resources you provided. It can feel like a mysterious thing. I'll be studying over the break.
Happy Holidays to you.

Currency and Commitment to Teachers

Earlier in the post, someone had mentioned that because of the significant drop in the Egyptian currency LE that local famillies are going to struggle to pay the tuition in hard currency from now on. Makes sense. But that therefore, schools may then pay teachers more in LE than let's say British pounds or US dollars. But if that currently reputable school that also is screend by and advertises on Search Associates has produced a contract with the amount in a set currency, wouldn't that be frowned upon by SA and generally tarnish the reputation, you know, if a school changed the salary and method of payment that is written and signed off on? How do schools fair with Search Associates when schools reneg on items in the contract, generally, actually. Thank you,

Recruiting time?

Hi there, when is recruiting time? I have had a few very positive interviews on Skype, three schools passing me to the next level of interviewing a few days after the first interview. I felt that all three of those school's interviewers were professional and that all the interviews went very well and I got positive feedback and told they would be in touch. I felt positive and would have accepted any of the three. I really expected something before Xmas but, I haven't had confirmation for between 4- 7 weeks. Is that usual in the fall: October, Nov. Dec Skype method? I even saw one of the jobs reposted. I am fully qualified and have good references. What are people's experiences with the Skype interview process before the international fairs start? Is it usual to have two successful interviews by the same employer and be left hanging? What are people's experiences? What is going on in the recruiter's end? Thanks for insight and also your experience.

College counselor online training?

Hello everyone, I would like to know where to get specific international college university high school counselor training that teachers the high school counselor how to help students enter both US and British post secondary institutions. I would need an online course or certification. Anyone know how to gain this skill without on the job learn as one goes? It seems that schools want that skill set and often will ask for someone who is VERY knowledgeable about the process and about the institutions. Thank you in advance.

Best Housing for Singles

Hello there, I am thinking of applying to JIS in Jakarta and wondered what housing single teachers receive? I would hope that access to a pool, an area to sit out in and possibly two bedroom would be offered, since I have relatives who would likely want to stay with me periodically.
Does anyone have suggestions for the best housing for singles on the international circuit. I just feel that to want to stay somewhere, being comfortable at the end of the day is very important. Thanks, Toni

Re: Canada - foreign teacher

Hello there, Quebec doesn't have a need for international schools because there are lots of very good free English public schools for children to attend. Schools in Canada require teachers to hold a provincial licence; each province has its own teacher association. I just did a search on Search Associates to see if there is an international Canadian school listed on that site and there is not.
Kindest regards,

Re: How safe is Egypt at the moment?

I am thinking of moving to Alexandria. Has anyone lived there and what do you think about the evening life there. What about the corniche-sea wall? Is it a nice place to work after school and how long is it? What is the food like in Alexandria? Are there fresh vegetable fruit markets? I am not a . person, so I am not interested in clubs I just want to be able to go out and socialize at a pub. Are there clubs or organization or events for expats? How do expats connect? Do people go to the Red Sea on the weekend, or is it to difficult or long? Has anyone ventured to Siwa? What weekend excursions would you suggest. Thanks :)

Does anyone know what the salary is for 2016-2017? Anyone worked for them that can speak to the best location within Quality Schools and housing and which ones need a counselor? Regards,

Re: American School Dubai

Anyone out there that knows what the housing for singles is like at ASD, now? Is it a teacherage, single apartments dotted around, villas...?
Anyone care to comment on packages in the Middle East that have excellent housing for singles? I am mid career and would like some comfort at the end of the day. Thanks in advance

Best Housing in Contracts

Hello there, As I search through job possibilities and reviews, I feel like I need to know more about the type of housing I will be assigned by a school. I know that some provide an allowance, while others actual school housing. Which schools have the best housing or housing allowance making for a comfortable home? Thanks,

Shipping a car instead of buying or renting a new one?

Hi there, has anyone shipped a vehicle and put all ones belongings in it: your school supplies, personal items etc., instead of the regular shipping of items method? My thoughts are Vancouver to Dubai, at this point? I am thinking of staying a long time and don't want to buy a new vehicle in the Middle East when I am happy with what I have. Alternatively, has anyone rented a car out in UAE and what is the going rate for a monthly lease and insurance on a Jeep Cherokee? Are SUVs expensive to buy used out there?
Thanks in advance

What is Tier 1 and Tier?

I take it that schools have a rating system, internationally. The term Tier 1 or 2 is often used on this site. Can anyone explain the meaning and criteria? Thanks in advance :)

Thank you

Thanks for all the comments and support.
I'd love to go to most places in Latin America! Unfortunately, I don't speak Spanish, but I am happy to counsel K-12. I have provided service for all grades and would rather like that.
I will take a look at the QSI schools, as suggested. Thanks. Looks like there are going to be a number of schools.

Hello there Shadowjack. I have been enjoying your posts throughout these blogs. Sorry for the delay in returning your inquiry. My board has agreed to the one year off for sure, but once I'm off, I would need to stay off unless they didn't get a replacement, which is very unlikely. I am confident that I can get work at least in my own country in outlying areas should I be unsuccessful internationally. I fell encouraged on the blog that something will come up, but likely last minute or maybe not if it is a smaller school.
Tat ta for now :)
