Re: thai police clearance cert

I've been to the central police station in Pathum Wan twice for police checks in the last month. It takes about an hour. You need your blue book, passport (and copies of both) plus you're current contract and the contract for your next school. Sign everything.150 Baht including postage.

Re: Staying for the Summer, or flying home for a visit?

We don't want to go through two sets of quarantine. We've already asked our landlord if we can stay extra month. Our new school is a 2 1/2 hour flight away (different country) and that's quite enough. To be honest I'd rather not get on a plane at all.

Re: Let the Bloodbath Begin.....

We're also moving to a country currently with closed boarders (for foreigners). While it is concerning, the school has given no indication that we will not be required. I'm being contacted by department heads about possible PD opportunities, I have a school email address and my kids have been assigned to classes. While this is all very reassuring, I know it could fall apart at any time. We're slowly packing up boxes to ship, but will likely not ship them until things look more concrete. We won't be returning to our home country in the summer because that might entail two sets of quarantine.

Plan B is probably rent at condo near the beach somewhere until something else turns up.

Interesting times.........

Re: Job Cuts

"Think about it from the parent perspective: why would I pay for a pricey private/international school for a year if I can just go to the local public option online for a year before things are sorted out?:

Because the local public version is still inferior to the private version? And also, the private schools will insist that those not partaking in the program will have to do the extra year anyway "to complete the program."

Re: Getting flights home this summer for departing teachers?

Yes, I think many of us are feeling like this. We have already talked to our landlord about staying on an extra month and then flying directly to our new school. We usually go home in the summer, but that might not be possible. We usually transit through China, Hong Kong or Seoul, but that seems like a bad idea right now. Currently Manila and Taipei could be possibilities, but that could change at any moment.

As for the contracts with our next school, yes, also worrying, although I know they are processing our work permits. Anything could happen. Uncertainly is the only certainty.

Re: Schools refusing to close due in COVID-2019 pandemic

As long as the parents keep paying, the schools can keep paying teacher salary. I can also think of plenty of cost savings in having an empty school. Besides, if the kids leave, where are they going to go? It's not like they can move to another school. And lastly, I would think staying open when everyone else is closed would be damaging to a schools reputation.

LOL. There is only so much you can do. We are not yet closed, but most of us feel closure is looming larger by the day. I can conference call, make videos, set edPuzzle, Quizlet, and various other assignments, but at the end of the day there has to be parent honesty too. I have no control over their actions and responses. I can only do so much.

Re: Situation in China

We're in Thailand. When we went home for the weekend yesterday it felt like the last day of term. I'm not saying school will be cancelled on Monday, but cancellation does feel like it's coming. I'm feeling the authorities might tie it up with Songkran holidays to minimize the impact.

I'm busy mastering Screencastify, Zoom and FlipGrid in preparation. For me, as a bit of of a tech enthusiast, this could be a major learning experience.

China People - What Does Online Learning Look Like for You Right Now?

Interested to know what teachers are actually doing. Are you teaching regular hours, posting assignments in the morning, conference calls, FlipGrid, etc? How are you keeping your class going? What is the expectation?

Thanks in advance.

Re: transferring US/QTS to Canada

I've just had three transcripts sent between provinces and one from the UK sent to the same place. Total cost including mailing - CAD$45.
