Re: position accepted is reposted

I contacted the IS saying I saw you were hiring for my position on TES and they never called me on it. The principal said it had nothing to do with my job but was part of their ongoing hiring, which could be true as there are many jobs posted.

position accepted is reposted

I got a job offer and accepted and the day after that, the position was reposted.
What could possibly be up with that?
Should I contact the school and ask?

Re: Objectives and Success Criteria on the Board

I like doing the vocabulary before the objectives and right after the starter because it keeps students active just that much longer. Stating objectives and introducing new material is when too much teacher-talk creeps into the lesson. I try to avoid that for as long as possible.

As far as plenary then log HW or log HW then plenary - I think logging hw first just breaks the natural flow.

Anyway, the yearly dog and pony show went well enough.

Search and Bad References

I have a hypothetical.

I'm not sure if I'm being panned on references or not. I have two heads of school, current and previous, both saying they are giving me good references but I'm suspicious by nature and I want to be sure.

My first thought was to create a fictitious complete with website and request references from these two but that seems like a time consuming and expensive project.

If I signed up with Search and my references panned me, would Search let me know? Or would they refuse to represent me because of bad references?

Re: Objectives and Success Criteria on the Board

Yes - same here a very British run school.
And objectives MUST come before introducing new vocabulary.
The only possible thing that can come before objectives clearly written on the board is the starter.
And homework must be logged into the planner BEFORE the plenary!

Top - down fucking Brits!

How long should the plenary be?

This might not be the right forum for the question but how long do teachers spend on their plenary?
A few teachers here say they spend as long as 10 to 15 minutes out of a 95 minute block on the plenary.

I always thought 5 minutes at the very most.

Average of Averages?

What is a good average ISR rating?
In other words, is there an average of averages available to compare one school with another?

Re: Is ISR actually anonymous?

About 2 years ago, I let the headmaster at the time know a negative review of the school and of him had just been posted on ISR and guess what? I immediately came under suspicion.

It really amazes me how strongly heads and schools react to bad reviews. I think teachers take bad reviews with a bigger grain of salt than most heads/schools do.

Re: Returning to the USA after time abroad

Because of my dependent situation, I've been reduced to applying to schools in the USA. I want to go somewhere cool that befits an international school teacher so I'm focusing on the Virgin Islands.

One good thing about public schools in the USVI, compared with schools in Florida, Indiana and Arkansas anyway, is that they do skype interviews. I'm guessing public schools generally in the states don't do skype interviews so that was some good news.

Re: 2019-20 jobs

Well - speaking from experience - kids and a trailing spouse makes it like 10,000 times harder. I had an email from an IS yesterday, they wanted to setup a skype interview within a day or two. I emailed back immediately, told them I'd be ready to interview at 6 am my time and I mentioned that I have a trailing spouse and 2 kids. I never even got an email back; I'm guessing they just scratched my name off a list.

When I was applying as a single teacher, I'd have multiple offers by now.

I think psyguy is right - it's too early in the hiring season for me. I'll have to wait until after the fairs at the earliest.

Another option I'm considering in applying and going over as a single teacher and having my wife and kids join me later and take on the whole visa hassle myself.

Re: 2019-20 jobs

Both interviews went well until I mentioned dependents and after that, they both said the identically same thing: it's still early in the game. My guess is, they only hire teachers with dependents when they have no other options.

Re: 2019-20 jobs

I've sent out 50 emails/online applications both for posted positions and unsolicited. The vast majority were unsolicited. My approach was to look at schools that attended UNI last year and schools in countries that I'm interested in on ISR paid section, check reviews. I have two skype interviews setup for next week.

I'm really motivated to leave my current post and I have non-teaching spouse and 2 kids so I think I should put in extra work. I haven't mention my non-teaching spouse and 2 kids so I'm really anxious about how that plays out.

Re: Downsides of IT

Personally, I just can't seem to stay back when I go back. My last stint in the States, I had a job family and friends envied, working at a public on-line school. I did most of my teaching at Starbucks. It was a really cushy job and zero discipline problems, which is my standard excuse for not teaching in the States. Anyway I lasted a year and wanted to go back overseas.

IT is addictive.
