Actually going to agree with PsyGuy here. You'd be more competitive as a math/English couple.

Re: Thoughts on Search Online Fairs
Speedracer - While schools may not have renewal cutoffs until November or December, there are plenty that may be short staffed because of COVID. I know that, at my school, we gave everyone the opportunity to get out of their contracts due to the location. As a result, we know going into the October fair that we have at least 3 definite positions to fill.

Re: 2021/2022 Advice
As someone in charge of hiring, I agree with everything Sid said. One inexperienced math teacher is fine, but two would be a problematic hire for exactly the reasons he described. Also, you are going to have an issue finding schools that are hiring for both MS and HS math (again, as Sid said). Those schools are either very large or very desperate, and the latter is more likely given the current situation. Also I hope you are not listing all of those certs on your resume - that reeks of desperation and I would not hire someone who claims to be an expert in all of those rather disparate subjects without EXTENSIVE proof of both content and pedagogical knowledge.

Re: Leadership Inquiry
As the wife of a senior admin who started as a teacher, I completely concur with Sid's response. All interactions - whether between colleagues or parents - are now a political game for both of us. It is an extremely difficult line to walk at times. You will also be essentially on call 24/7, which WILL affect your family and social life.

Re: Dataset for average international school salaries
Thanks sid and finedude. Thought this might be one of those topics that had too many variables to form a reliable data set, but I thought I'd at least ask. For the record, this was just because I wanted to practice my python/R skills by comparing average American public school vs. IS salaries and their benefits. I'm happy at my current school but I'm also very bored.

Dataset for average international school salaries
Does anyone know if such a dataset exists? I'd rather not reinvent the wheel by trying to scrape the SA or ISS sites.

Re: Schools Unable To Employ Staff
They'll hire locals for the year or until this blows over. Or, depending on the country and the quality of the school, TEFLers.

@Boomba and @Immortus
Just understand that you will be forced to use the following on your resume if you go through Harvard Extension School (these are the 2020 guidelines):
Master of Liberal Arts, Harvard University Extension School. Field of Study
Master of Liberal Arts, Extension Studies, Harvard University.
There are two things wrong with this: 1. Your degree title is not going to be the point of focus - instead, it will be Extension Studies. 2. Harvard makes it VERY CLEAR that you are part of the extension program. I looked at doing my first Master's through them but ultimately decided against it for these reasons.

I'm staying. I'd rather be stuck in the country where my job is.

Re: So, if the border isn't open...
For me, Plan B would be to look for a job in my home country since that's the only definite in terms of travel/accessibility at the moment. I don't envy anyone their decisions though. I consider myself to be a fairly ethical person, but at the end of the day I have to look out for myself and my family.

Re: So, if the border isn't open...
TheHuman is right. Anyone who is blindly trusting their school right now is being naive. I would agree that many schools WANT to bring employees in as usual, keep pay the same, etc., but if enrollment drops precipitously or borders remain closed longer than expected they're going to have no choice but to make cuts. Having a Plan B is never a bad thing.

Of course name recognition/ranking does not equal teaching ability. Anyways, it's a moot point. I am very much doing this only for my personal benefit. I don't care if it affects my teaching ability, although I can't imagine it would hurt.

You're not the first person who has said good things about Washington, fine dude. I'll check it out!
Thank you, PsyGuy for clarifying that UT is on the same level as the Ivy and near Ivy schools and that Cornell and Brown are for kids who just couldn't do any better. I'll keep that in mind!

Are you saying UPenn and Cornell aren't global Ivies? That seems....wrong? My students fight tooth and nail to get into those, as well as Brown, Dartmouth, etc.
