Yeah, I'm not really sure that they are really screwing you either. Screwing you would have been you moving there, renting a place, buying a car and then they terminated your contract. You got amble warning and I'm sorry, but the letter does seem sincere and you were offered compensation.

I understand that you're upset, I would be too. The way you are handling this though is just wrong and shows that you're a bit of a loose cannon when things don't go as planned. This sort of thing does happen a lot and that is the risk that you take with wanting to teach on the international circuit.

I'm not saying that you should have had a plan B, again you have a right to be upset, but you've gone and blown up a bridge to a good school. You've shown a side of your character and crisis management ability that will be a turnoff for others. I would have kept this matter private, negotiated a higher compensation fee with the school, kept it civil and professional and looked for employment elsewhere. I would not have made this public.

Good luck to you.

I don't work for an IS, I work for DoDEA and we have contracts as well. I would not hire someone that broke their contract for the reasons that you stated. Sorry, and not to sound cruel, but that's a you problem, not a school problem.

On the other hand I would hire a teacher that broke a contract if they had to return home to care for a sick loved one, or for their own health reasons had to head back to their country to receive care that may not be available to them in their area.

Life is tough and your choice is a tough one. I would weigh all of the risk before bailing out. You're almost half way through this year so look at it this way, you've only got 1 and half more years to put up with these things before you can look elsewhere.

And as another poster said, start looking for way for you to make more money.

You may also want to look into DoDEA, the Department of Defense schools that are overseas. We have schools in Korea, Japan, Okinawa, Guam, Spain, Germany, Italy, Great Britain, Belgium, Netherlands, Portugal, Turkey, Bahrain, Cuba, and Puerto Rico, and that's not including what we have in the states.

If you've been an admin for that long, and are finishing up your PhD, we also are trying to hire some Asst Superintendent positions overseas.

Check out USAJobs.Gov, select Department of Defense, and then select Department of Defense Education Activity. Click the boxes for Full Time and Permanent and then Search. You'll see what we have available.

Good luck to you!

One teacher doesn't make an entire school bad, PsyGuy. Being a good teacher in an underperforming school is not something that I'm going to hold against an applicant. I want to hire good teachers, who's philosophy meshes with mine and the school's. A real educator knows that there are many factors that go into a school and making it good, and/or bad.

Lying, and/or spinning the truth is never a good thing. In the end, like you know, you will get found out and then, like you, will need to bolt for the next job and start all over.

It's 100% obvious that you run ISR to me, and others that have emailed me have expressed the same concern. Pretty sad that you need to create a troll character in order to get people over here.

Strive for the school that you believe will be the best fit for you. The school that is located in a place that you can see yourself living for a few years. The school that offers you the best package to give you the kind of life that you want. Don't worry about tier 1, 2, or 3. Worry about finding what you will be most happy in.

You have to understand something about PsyGuy, he plays the flipped coin angle with every bit of his advice. On the one hand if you were interested in DoDEA and coming from a well-to-do IS he would tell you that you don't have a chance, because DoDEA's demo isn't well-to-do students, it reflects more America public school students.

Yet what he doesn't tell you is that he has all of this experience at well-to-do IS's over the last 8 years, I believe 8 different schools in that timeframe, I've lost count. And yet he claims that he landed a DoDEA job having had only well-to-do IS experience as of late.

He's textbook troll and tells you the opposite of what you want to hear because he is so all knowing and powerful and runs ISR. It's amazing how he gives out advice and yet none of it ever, ever applies to him. In every instance he breaks through, beats the odds and gets that great job without have the experience that the school really wants, or needs.

He is so inspiring that one day Disney will make a movie about his life and how he's overcome all of the odds that he stacks against you, but somehow beats himself because he's superman...

Ignore him. If you can teach and will fit in with the culture of th school then you stand he same exact chance as the others that teach and would fit in with the culture but taught at a well-to-do IS. What will set you apart is how you answer their scenario questions if they ask any of you. If the interviewer asks nothing about you and your educational philosophies, and only talks about their shopping, or the school, run away as that is not a good sign. Good schools with good admin want to know about you and how you teach, not show you their new Prada handbag.

@Walter, because PsyGuy has to come off as being in the know. His act doesn't hold much weight once you figure out that he's a fraud. He's solely here to cause a disruption and give out faulty and bad advice. I'm also beginning to believe the he's the admin/owner for ISR and does this to create visitors to this site. I think you, Walter, should create your own blog/site. I'd visit something that drowns out guys like PsyGuy with facts and knowledge.

I don't even see this coming up in a question. If I'm interviewing you I want to know about your educational philosophy, and whether or not you'll be a good fit for our school and organization. I'm not researching your current/former school and unless you mention it I won't even bother asking. I'll throw different types of scenarios your way and see how you respond.

Don't spin. Don't lie. It catches up to you in the end.

Your goal is to get into the organization. In order to get into the organization you need to have 1 of 2 things, experience, or the right certifications. We hire 1st year teachers all of the time, just did in fact hire a 1st year teacher with 2 certs that we were looking for.

If you don't have a ton of experience, that's ok also, there may be some locations and admin that may not look at you, but there will be a lot of other admins in other locations that will if you have the certs that they are looking for.

Experience does not equal quality, something that PsyGuy doesn't seem to understand. He's a guy that claims all of these certs and having the experience in some areas to back it up. Yet he doesn't stay in any one location long enough to build any longevity. He bounces every 1 to 2 years. DoDEA won't hire this kind of teacher. It costs upwards of $50,000 to PCS a new CONUS hire to their overseas post. It costs another $50,000 to PCS them back to CONUS. This year especially we've been told to be careful about who we hire from CONUS and look at things like length of employment. PsyGuy wouldn't have made it out of EAS, he'd have been filtered out.

My advice is to obtain certs in areas that you are passionate about teaching in. If you have multiple certs then you are my flexible to us as to where we can place you. Our teachers can retire/quit at any time during the year, so having flexibility is a good thing.

There are no guarantees that you will get hired with DoDEA. We're an organization in flux at the moment. I'm telling you as a person that hires for DoDEA what myself and other admin look for and how we think. We want quality teachers that are passionate about coming into work everyday and working with great kids. We want teachers that want to continue learning and growing and developing 21st century skill sets. We don't want teachers that have 1, or 2 certs, no stability at any of their previous positions and who cling to old practice.

If you're what we're looking for Ringler, great, keep in touch with me and if we have spots to hire for this year I will gladly look you up and contact you. If you're more like PsyGuy, I want to stay as far from you as possible.

If you got hired, which none of us believe, then it's proof that DoDEA will hire anybody. You're a pest and you tell people to lie which means that you lie yourself. Also, wanna know how I know that you don't teach for DoDEA? This site is blocked by Bluecoat. You can't access it on the DoDEA network.

I just got invited to the BKK fair and I have a non-teaching spouse and 2 children. My Search Associate said that many of the top schools hire you based on what you can do for them and what impact you will have on the school and its culture. I'm sure Walter can add to and expand this as well. So please do not give up hope because PsyGuy says that you are going to be too expensive for a school.

As for DoDEA, adding as many certs as you can will make you more attractive. We are a geographically dispersed school district that cannot always tap into the local/base population to fill our needs. Sometimes we have to be creative and want an elementary teacher and ESL combo. The more certs you have the more flexible you are within the system. Don't ever stop growing as a professional. Learn as much as you can because you're the type of teacher that will go far in DoDEA.

I'm not going to guess on what they have, or don't have. That's what you do, give advice on pure conjecture. I'm going to offer good advice, roads they can use to achieve their goals and wish them luck. You Google your information, speculate on what they do/do not have, and then tell them to lie to get a job. The difference between us, PsyGuy, is that I'm actually in the education field and work for DoDEA. While you lie about working for DoDEA.
