HKIS is in a strange location in HK. Hard to get to and there are two campuses. You have to have a car or take a bus to get to the secondary campus. You also, depending on what you teach, will be expected to teach religious studies. If that doesn't bother you then you might like it. Hong Kong is crowded. When I lived there it bothered me. HK is also more polluted (thanks China) then Singers.
SAS is HUGE. It is one of the biggest international schools by population. Singapore is not the most interesting city. It is clean though.
Travel ops abound. SAS has new leadership this year. Not sure how that is going.
Financially you should do fine at both places depending on your spending habits.
Good luck

The school is going through tough times financially from what I've heard. The new director had to let people go last year because of the Tsunami and the fact that a lot of businesses are leaving Japan for tax reasons. Enrollment is down and two years ago they cut new teacher pay by about 10%. There are teachers there making big money but they had to put in 20 years to get to it.

I have friends there. They have told me it is the same old same old in Dhaka... the school is good, the package is very good, the community is solid and small.
The issue is that you have to live in Dhaka. It is dirty, crowded, there is no infrastructure and the chances of having a solid BM are slim to none.
Going to India is their way of getting away from the poverty might help put some perspective on this.
It isn't for everyone but some LOVE it.
Good luck,
B

If you go to Spain your wife will HAVE to work. The US schools in Spain do not pay enough to feed and sustain a family of four. Yes it is a great country and culture but the schools should tell you just how difficult it will be.
The Lincoln school in BA should allow you to work and support your family on one salary. Albeit without much savings. It is a tough school to get into though.
Good luck.

I've been to quite a few fairs and have interviewed with about half the int. schools in the world. I have to say that only about 10% ever ask why you are leaving. It is usually a throw away question. They are expecting a quick answer about new challenges or change of scenery. If you get into a discussion about not being offered a contract because of 'whatever' then I wouldn't expect a positive result.
I'm not saying lie! I'm saying that there has to be something about the country or in your city that annoys you or you would like to be different. Use that. At my last school my principal was a total douche. Did I mention that in my interview even though it was quite relevant to why I was searching? No. I spoke about the climate or something else as mundane so that the interview could focus on my teaching and pedagogy.
Good luck,
PS don't bring this up with search or at least wait until you have a signed contract.

Seems like a lot of money to spend on a fishing expedition.
Two ideas of why might be....
The school has to show up at a certain amount of job fairs to be active with the recruiting agencies.
The school thinks it looks good on the international circuit if they are represented at the big Asian fair.
As a teacher... Just be upfront about salary and the fact that your school will not be offering contracts until after the fair. What you didn't say is how much the upper admin will listen to you and your colleague when you get back.
Best of luck.

Site looks great.
You'll do fine at a fair but if you want to get a head start then look at school websites in areas that you want to live. Just google international school any city and you'll get a list. Email them your site and resume and cover letter.
Best of luck... if you are that good with tech you'll get offers.

I liked your post psyguy...
I just think that an 'easy' lifestyle in relation to the salary in some of the cities you mention would be difficult.
Places, like Milan, might be great but if you have to tutor to make ends meet then it ain't the place for me.
I have worked at the big powerhouse Asian schools and I have worked at the big powerhouse middle eastern ones and I have worked at the big powerhouse European ones so...
If I have to retire there and work there for way too many years... I pick Europe...maybe... ISBrussels, ASHague, FranfurtIS, Geneva, AISVienna or another like it.
Why?
For me they allow for good travel ops. They are close to my home of record. They have good retirement plans. Health care is good. Safe. Salary will let me live a good lifestyle. They also have some employment protection. I have seen some crazy things happen when teachers get on the wrong side of the wrong admin or parent and I would like to know that I have some recourse.
Alright psyguy... your turn... one shot....one place... rest of your working life.... Where?

PS - I'll probably end up in Asia. :)
