Re: WASC Attack

This is indeed curious. Why did you get fired? You seem very vindictive in that you want to hurt the students graduating from the school as a way to avenge the inequity you experienced. I thin that speaks volumes about you and may be a glimpse into why the school dismissed you.

Re: ISR Compared to other school review sites.

Hey Tiff,

There is a web site that I've seen that is just one long page and the owner lets teachers say what they want. I don't think they remove anything. I can't remember the name. It has a black background, I think. You'll know it if you find it. Other than that I would go along with the thought that these other sites, although useful to some extent, have so many rules that they really just allow for a fairy tale version of these schools, like you said. I agree that it is really deceiving teachers and it is possible y dangerous for teachers when they don't get the true picture. I trust ISR to let us speak our minds and warn our colleagues.

Keep up the search...you can never do to much of it . You could also post specific questions to this forum about a school.

Re: ISR Compared to other school review sites.

Hi Tiff, I usually don't post but do off and on. I will try to answer your question. I've been overseas for years. I first discovered ISR in 2006 and frankly I was shocked at what these teachers were saying on line in the Pay side of this web site. Off and on you'll see that ISR posts threat letters from school attorneys along with reviews of the school. So to answer your question, I'm sure there are legal issues involved in letting teachers say what they want. As I remember, it even says on the pay page when you join that some of your money goes for legal advice. Lawyers are like smog in my opinion - you wish they would go away. I would guesstimate that ISR has their fair share of "smog" hanging around. I think these other sites temper what teachers are allowed to say to avoid legal issues. I look at the other sites to see what's there but when it comes to getting the information I can depend on it's been ISR that I trust. Good luck in your job search. Get information from various sources and then make up your own mind.

I haven't heard of one. Why not check out Search and ISS? I found two positions in South East Asia through them.

Teaching in the Peace Corps really has little to do with teaching in International Schools where you are catering to the upper 10 percent of the local population and kids from embassies and well to do business people. So I don't think that experience will be of much value, except that it shows you adapted to living in another culture and that should be worth something. I don't mean to discourage you and you should go to conference and give it your best. I found my first job with two years teaching experience and some travel under my belt. You can do it, too!!

I would say you chances of finding a position are very small with two kids and a stay home wife. Are your kids old enough to be in school? Even if they are the school will be stuck for transport, shipping of personal goods and school enrollment as opposed to a couple that both teach with no kids in toe. You never know, you may get luck so don't give up. If you taught chemistry or math your chances would be much better. English teachers I don't believe are in high demand.

I think you have to agree that not everyone has the same experience at every school. I've been at two schools I absolutely deplored while other teachers thought they had landed at the end of the rainbow. What they saw in the places was just beyond me. On the other hand when I was in South America a group of teachers hated the school and organized against the director. I loved the place and could never understand why they were so unhappy - except for the fact that they were making themselves unhappy though no fault of the school.

In regards to PsyGuy, he appears to have had a very bad time in the ME and so his posts reflect that reality. I recommend you just ignore him if he bothers you. I have worked at one of the schools he has blasted and have to say he is pretty much on the money. Of course my experience coincides with his.

I have also found PsyGuy helpful and knowledgeable. Traveller 1 You have to agree that not everyone has the same experiences in life and not everyone sees things the same way. Bu, there are people who profess to be open minded educators, preparing our kids for the future, when really they are closed minded and only open to considering what resonates with their limited view of the world. I believe you fit that last description.

ISR, as far as I know, is what is called a third . venue. They just provide the space for us to carry on. I once had a post removed. I believe it was because I attacked, in a very unprofessional manner, another poster. Other than that I feel free to say what needs to be said. In this case I would say Traveller 1 is the racist, bigoted, biased, ignorant one.

I don’t always agree with PsyGuy and I don’t always agree with other people on this forum. But that’s the beauty of the free world - we have freedom of speech. So just because you have copped an attitude about PsyGuy that doesn’t mean the rest of us have. Fortunately you don’t have the powers to go along with your desire to shape and control the content on this web site.

I've been following this thread for a while and I am wondering how you can say they didn't want to tell the parents because it would hurt their bottom line. who at the school would tell you this in admin. Or did you just make this conclusion on your own?

I would like to know too how you were so sure this teacher was having sex with this kid. Maybe the school tangled you up with the authorities because you blew the whistle based on assumptions only... Just sayin'.

I think this web site is about schools and admin and information that helps us decide if we want to work someplace . What you are reporting here is gossip type stuff with out facts to back it up. I think ISR was right to remove the stuff form the site. It sounds like if you can come up with a little proof they'll put your stuff back in.

I just found Eric Sand's school email address through a Google search. He is the director of Qatar Academy and he would probably like to hear our thoughts on this subject.

car insurance

Yes, this is a problem. I always keep an old car and keep liability on it for about $100 a year. This way I can rent cars and use that insurance and I also have a car to drive for the summer when I return home. Giving up your car insurance is a big mistake because companies charge you a much higher rate to initiate a policy when you don't have current insurance. What to do with the car can be a problem when you leave for 10 months. Fortunately I have a friend with a very big barn and I leave my car off to the side.

my friend was happy to have her forum post made into a blog

The blog about moving overseas for the first time was first posted to the forum by one of our teachers. This person is very pleased that their forum post was chosen to be on the blog, thus attracting more response from teachers. They took it all as a compliment and not that someone stole their work. How could the people that host the forum be accused of stealing work off their own site and using it someplace else? I did notice that it says at the top of the blog that the topic was taken from the forum. So, no secret, undercover stuff there.

I think you should keep in mind that TES restricts everything we say but ISR allows us to share information, especially in the pay section of the site. I'm sure ISR has legal issues to deal with on an ongoing scale and maybe they need the money to afford legal stuff. Just a thought.

Hey - Lets bite the hand that feeds us.

I do find it interesting you have the audacity to use the best means of sharing information we have to criticize the very group that makes this possible. If you want to continue to blow you horn and puff up your feathers, why not do it someplace else? As for me, I suffered badly at a school and could have avoided the entire ordeal had I known about this site before accepting the position. I can't recommend ISR highly enough to new teachers. As for the site charging money....why not teach next year for no salary?
