Re: Asian College of Teachers

PG used a lot of words to say the simple truth. This isn’t a particularly useful thing.
Having investigated ACT previously for other reasons, I’ll add that the quality of their course content was pretty suspect. Very not modern, not progressive, not research based approach to our chosen profession. At least for the courses I looked at. If I came across a candidate with ACT coursework, I’d worry that they had learned some very bad approaches.

Re: Questions about timing

Thanks for the mention TP. I weighed in near the beginning.
As for the grader question, yes, as a recruiter I prefer candidates with something extra, and being a grader would be a creative way of attaching to the IB. If you can do it, it could help. Most IB schools would welcome more people around with deep knowledge of IB grading practices.
However, becoming a grader without IB experience could prove tricky. I haven’t applied lately, but historically two of the hurdles are demonstrating IB experience and getting a recommendation from your IB Coordinator. Has that changed?

Re: All is quiet

I predict it’ll be a mess for at least a couple years. Countries and schools are on disparate timelines for recovery and consolidation. Quiet in one place will be balanced with crazy in another.

Re: new EF (Education First) school in Pasadena, CA - would love info!

Salaries in US private schools are often lower than in public schools.
As for free housing, it’ll require living with the students and significant interaction with them in the evenings. Worth it for some, but it’s not for me.

Re: How do ISs compare to schools back home (for students)?

There are so many different types and levels of schools that I wouldn’t like to compare international with domestic overall. The best in each are going to be awesome and the worst will be dire, regardless of location. It’s more of a continuum than one big basket.

You seem to have adapted well to a post-truth world.

Re: All is quiet

It seems pretty active from my perspective. Lots of jobs posted already, so just transferred from an August 2021 start date to an August 2022 start, so some schools clearly giving up on filling positions this year and just limping along to next.

In a normal distribution curve, yes. In the range of international school salaries, no.

Re: HR asking for expected salaries.

You’re looking for the difference between mean and median. PG’s statement is true for median, but not for mean.

Re: Questions about timing

Just be ready by August 2023. Hiring starts mid September these days, so get registered and references and cv etc etc all set up before that. It’s a lot of work to do it right.

Re: Certificate Transfer to NJ is Taking Too Long

It’s hard to predict. It shouldn’t be an issue but I can see some functionary taking offense and turning down the visa application. It can be hard at times to convince government officials about documents they don’t understand, and they tend to be very risk averse. The easiest route is saying no.
So…

Re: Schools that dont post package etc

I wouldn't say it's a trend. Few schools, in my experience, are so transparent that they post full details. You may or may not get info about benefits, and you very rarely get anything tangible about salary.

B, with most established schools also excluding any experience before you earned a qualification.
