Re: Tips for negotiating salary.
Established schools have a set salary scale. There are 20 others behind you to grab that job. Only lower tier schools and those in hardship locations might give you some leeway. International teaching is longer the best kept secret and there are dime a dozen math and physics teachers and if Brexit does really happen, expect a lot more competition for IT jobs.

Re: Leopardfish?
These days every other website has the same vacancies. Just having openings from two decent schools will not make you another SA. Cairo and Delhi are really not the most sought after places if you look deeper at pollution and safety issues.

Re: Leopardfish?
A bunch of teachers trying to make some extra cash by matching warm bodies to lower tier schools.

A decent place for kids to grow up, long-term savings, and a reasonable mortgage. Can't afford buying one here.

Would you make this move?
We are a teacher couple with a kid and steady jobs in the Netherlands. We are being offered posts at a top-tier British school in Thailand. Do you guys think it's worth relocating?

@jamcdona
Poor admin without checks and balances, they can fire teachers at will as teachers have few legal options, parents and students are mostly nice. Workload can be pretty hectic if you work at top-tier schools and teachers group according to nationalities and hobbies. Can be very isolating sometimes.

Re: 2019-20 jobs
@PG
As usual, you missed the point. An experienced teacher with strong pedagogical content knowledge with a trailing spouse will have more impact on students than an average single teacher who has a shaky understanding of the subject. My kids wouldn't mind learning from the former even if (s)he has a big ego.

If a school has the resources, I see nothing wrong with hiring teachers with trailing spouses. The worst experience I had was spouses of administrators who had no pedagogical content knowledge, had far too many complaints from students, got poor exam results, yet continued to earn big bucks as lead teachers, all thanks to their admin hubbies. No school would hire these folks if they were single.

Boredom at Workplace
How do you handle boredom when you feel jaded and get tired of getting on a new bandwagon each year, especially when the administrators care very little?

Re: East Asia/Singapore Fair
Love to disagree with PG's wikipedia-backed response. If you are single and have 3-5 years experience with A levels/IB and solid extracurriculars (Duke of Edinburgh, MUN, service projects etc.), you can break into a decent tier 2 school. Do email schools in advance and let them know you're genuinely interested. Create a class blog if you don't have one yet and highlight your experience with evidence-based and personalized learning. Post pics from student trips and connect with fellow educators on twitter. Singapore wants turbo-charged teachers, who are willing to spend their breaks on student trips and service projects. You really need to show you can run an extra marathon.

Your criminal instincts have no bounds I guess and we're debating pedagogy, not felony. You are just clueless about the laws of the land. Anyway, won't waste anymore time exposing your false wisdom, non-existent admin experience, and imaginary credentials.

Re: Instructional Coach
Have to say you're dead wrong, PG. Administrators have come and gone (even fired), but teachers have been here for decades and will remain so.
