Re: Negativity in the workplace

@ senator

So, when you entered there was a third noble pathway that has since disappeared, seems fair.

Re: Fresh certification, but no experience....help!!!

The point is that a School is not a typical business. (Even if some treat it this way)

If your children were attending a school would you want them taught by someone who cared about your child's education, or would you be happy with someone that just turned up and did the bare minimum?

Re: Fresh certification, but no experience....help!!!

If you don't care about being a good teacher, not only are you wasting your own time, you are wasting the students time and getting in the way of a real teacher who cares about educating children.

No doubt you will have a ready-fire excuse at hand. You are only fooling yourself and possibly some lower tier admin for a short period of time.

Whatever excuse you choose to delude yourself with, the real losers are the students and their parents. When one of these parents finds out your attitude towards their child's education, which they are paying for, you will get your just desserts.

In the meantime, make all the excuses you like, you are not deceiving anyone, including yourself.

Re: Fresh certification, but no experience....help!!!

The types of school that will accept you as a teacher with no experience is not somewhere that you will get good mentoring/resources etc.

I have just spent my first year in one and am now in a DS for my second, chalk and cheese.

On the plus side I have one year IB experience...

Re: Fresh certification, but no experience....help!!!

As an example in Australia when you first graduate you are given a provisional certification. Then after x amount of time/portfolio you gain full certification which you can use to get QTS.

If you decided to head straight overseas, eventually, you will have problems renewing your provisional registration. This may affect your ability to get a visa for some countries. It also limits the ability of your IS to truthfully claim their teachers are fully certified in their home countries.

Therefore, it is better to get full certification in your home country which you can transfer to QTS (which does not expire).

If you are only planning to teach for a few years, head straight OS. If you have longer term plans it's better to just suck it up and get the experience.

Well if you're not too fond of free speech I could imagine Africa could just be your cup of tea.

Re: Fresh certification, but no experience....help!!!

I started off overseas and have come back home to get my full licence. In hindsight it would have been better for my teaching to have just done the two years straight off the bat. There is much better support/resources in comparison to where you would be teaching. The time flies, you get 12 weeks holidays each year and at the end of two years you are fully licenced. This will make you a much stronger candidate as opposed to the other pathway. Of course there are exceptions but think of it like building a house, you want a strong foundation before anything else.

If you are anything like me you will just head straight off regardless, either way, good luck!

Re: Africa with small kids

I think we should accept all opinions in a civil manner, no need to try and limit opinions.

Africa is known for tyrants, coincidence?

Re: Online IB courses

Second that. I wouldn't waste money on the course. It would be more impressive to have found out the info via google rather than pay $800 for the privilege.

It appears I have touched a nerve. All I gave was my humble opinion.

I don't agree with your suggestion of telling other forum members what they should write.

Each to their own I guess.

@ "Amusing User Name"

A simpler problem nowadays is that many do not have the ability to accept defeat. When you lose, instead of name-calling, maybe some self-reflection could be useful. It is entirely sensible for citizens around the world to want a society whereby they can go about their business without the threat of being beheaded, having their bus blown up or being run down by a truck. I find it incredible in light of recent events that despite these weekly atrocities, many still direct their scorn, not on the terrorists, but the evil populists who have the audacity to cast a peaceful vote for a safer society.
