Re: Search Associates New Contract

I guess you'd better be extra sure who you sign on with. Honestly I'm not very impressed with Search and their database so far. I see a lot of schools much worse than mine and mine is definitely no better than 2nd tier, if you go by that. A lot of the good schools I see listed can also be found on other sites. However, its still early in the year so I will reserve final judgement for now.

The contract says "may" be required to pay... but they do make it sound like if a school bitches they will just sell you down the river and throw you under the bus.

I wonder how you get out of a contract with Search. If you find a job with a school not represented by Search I guess its no trouble.

Re: Canadian Tax Question

You can live outside your Province and still qualify for health care but it is a provincial jurisdiction and usually depends on the total number of days spent abroad, however for most teachers it would be hard to maintain it.

A tax treaty only prevents you from being double taxed.

Get a professionals opinion and contact CRA directly as they do each case individually and the results may differ on who makes the decision.

Also, there are benefits of keeping your residency, depends on your situation.

Search Acceptance

Does Search accept everyone? For example, if you have dependents do they look over your references and teachables to determine your likelihood of landing a job. I'm wondering if its worth it if the schools they represent are not realistic targets for me anyways? I can teach any grade math or science but do not have any IB experience.

I seem to recall someone getting a refund from them but I would rather not pay in the first place if they aren't for me . They are asking me to pay before I even complete my four references. So far the process has been pretty impersonal so I'm not too sure about them.

It is not a science. It is an unproven theory related to Network Science. In fact, in the strictest sense it cannot hold true.

What about being honest with the first school...maybe they won't want a teacher that expresses doubts and let you off.

That is a good point. Usually NDA are very specific, related to trade secrets etc. An all encompassing one preventing one to say anything about a school would seem like a red flag not to join that school.

I think most people reading any reviews take them with a grain of salt. Some people like to complain but I think once a body of reviews have been posted one can get a general sense of the school.

Re: Teaching in the UK

I can teach any math or science...but prefer math. I still get headhunters sending me emails ( I must have registered with them when starting out) for UK schools but I imagine those are for desperate schools. I don't understand the one off lesson thing, unless they chose a random topic when you are there. Even that defeats the purpose of prepping.

Re: Teaching in the UK

I am interested in Secondary. What about Jersey or Guernsey? The reason I asked is because my wife would be allowed to work in the UK because of her ancestry.

Teaching in the UK

I was wondering what teaching is like in the UK. Its never been on my list due to the bad things I have heard about the students, but are they really as bad as people say?

If I were to consider the UK where would the best locations be? I do not require a urban centre like London, just a safe place for my family.

Thanks.

Re: Guangdong Country Garden School

I noticed that positions, around a dozen, are always available at that school. I would highly recommend you read the paid reviews.
