Re: Norway questions

Thanks Psyguy.
What would be the best European country to work in to begin a pension in mid-40s or after a stint in Norway do you think?

Re: Norway questions

Thank you, Psyguy.

How does the salary scale for school administration compare to that for teachers in Norway?

Re: Norway questions

Thanks for info and suggestions. What about..

1. Would my pension contributions be transportable after 1 year to another country in the EU?
2. What type of pension would I be looking at and at what age would I be eligible if I were starting in my mid-40s?
3. Would it be possible to leave Norway after a certain period of time to teach outside of Europe and continue with the Norwegian pension scheme by contributing to it myself from abroad?

Re: Norway questions

I've read a review of a school in Norway where a teacher complains they are not being paid what Norwegian teachers are being paid in their national schools and that's illegal but nothing can be done. Is this possible? I would have thought Norway was run by rule of law in every way.
Would Sweden or Denmark offer a better benefit package including pension and medical?

Re: Norway questions

Preexisting medical conditions won't be an issue with state medical coverage. Correct?

Norway questions

A few questions if anyone can help:

1. Are medication costs covered/subsidized by the state or otherwise by one's employer?
2. Is the pension portable if one changes employer in Norway or moves to another European country?

Acceptable yearly salary for 1 in Norway?

What would be an acceptable yearly salary in Euros for one person to live on in Norway with no other financial benefits such as housing, shipping, flight, etc. But still hoping to enjoy life and save something but obviously not buckets of money.

PYP or IPC in terms of cost to school?

Which curriculum is more costly to a school? I'm thinking of initial charge and certification and all other costs entailed.

True Teaching: Is it only me or....

Is anyone else, who has joined True Teaching, sick and tired of receiving their emails asking if any school has contacted you, or offered you a contact?

Applying again to the same reposted vacancies

The same vacancies at the same schools are sometimes posted at Search Associates again and again only a few months or even a few weeks apart. Can I apply again...and again? Or, would it be best to just follow up on my most recent application with a pleasant inquiring email?

Questions for recruiters

When you sift through a pile of applications to a teacher vacancy what makes you put them in the 'for sure' pile, the 'maybe' pile, the 'no way' pile? What things are you hoping to see? What things are you hoping not to see?

Re: after accepting offer from ISS website...

Yes, I think you should follow through with the job you've accepted.
I had the experience where I was not told what was going to happen after I landed at the airport in my new host country even though the school was in another city 10 hours drive away. The only thing that put fire under them was when 48 hours before I was scheduled to board my flight I emailed my school and said I would not be able to board the airplane unless they told me exactly what was happening between my landing and my arriving at my new home. That did the trick.

Re: after accepting offer from ISS website...

My two cents:

1. First off, my limited experience with ISS goes back roughly 15 years ago. I didn't think they could care less about teachers. Once they got their money from you they were done.
2. In the past schools have helped me procure visas. But they couldn't do everything. Ultimately I had to visit the embassy or consulate. I believe the schools always paid for the visas but not for the transportation to and from government offices. And they didn't reimburse me for my degrees and documents I had to have notarized by a lawyer. That was sometimes more expensive than the visa itself.
3. I've experienced some pretty unbelievable incompetence from some schools when trying to get my visa, everything from spelling my name incorrectly to making an assumption as to what city I lived in in a huge country and then expecting me to fly to that city when I could have more easily completed that task at a more appropriate government office in the city in which I actually lived!
4. Ultimately, in one instance I contacted the school director to tell him that as things stood I would not be arriving in the country with a work visa. That got the ball rolling and got some people at the school to pull their head out of their ass.

You could always try to post a veiled negative review about the school at ISR in hope of getting them to get their ass in gear. Otherwise, be sure to post once you've left!
