Re: Making the leap to admin. Is it worth it?

That's interesting. Three times the salary? Northern Europe is the only place where I understood it was a small bump in the salary. That's promising. Might make it worth it.

Making the leap to admin. Is it worth it?

Here are some of the drawbacks of becoming admin that come to mind:
-longer work days
-loss of some holidays
-weekend work
-difficult teachers
-difficult parents
-difficult students
-fewer vacancies to apply to
-you are then eligible for your own personal ISR report/review :)

I don't know how the feeling of accomplishment of being a successful leader/admin compares to being a successful teacher. But any comments on if moving to admin/leadership is worth it? And are the benefits in terms of an increase in salary, better accommodations, or whatever else you are given worth it? Maybe if the overall benefit package is much better people could at least state which country they are working in.

Re: Police clearance checks translated?

I have a checks being processed now I'm sure they won't be in English but I'll post them anyway. I think a translation might have to be done pro and stampeby a lawyer. all which costs money. I can't be bothered for now.
But good tip to ask when applying for an English copy.

Police clearance checks translated?

Is anyone bothering to have their police checks translated to English before posting them to their profile on any of the recruiting agencies?

Psyguy this intereste me doing SPED and leadership. I assume that would be more applicable to a very large school which has many SPED teachers. Most schools I've worked in were lucky to have one SPED teacher. Do you know of any reputable institutions offering this type of masters degree?

Re: Online or 'blended' masters degrees?

There are a few universities which are only online. Glad I didn't go to U of Pheonix if it's such a dead give away!

I don't really know how to tell if a program is quality or not. I have heard of people doing graduate degrees in education from ivy league schools and thought they were crap. But, that's a valuable degree.

I agree that I don't think it really matters to a prospective employer. It's either a run of the mill uni in which they won't care or a prestigious uni in which they might expect a little more from you or plug your degree as a selling point parents, etc.

By the way one of my interests lies in Spec Ed. if anyone happens to know of a good program online or blended.

Online or 'blended' masters degrees?

I have a masters degree in education which was completed entirely online but would like to pursue another one. My understanding is that a masters degrees done face to face on campus makes one more marketable than one completed online. I have heard of some which are a combination, I think the term is 'blended'. Would completing a blended masters degree make a teacher that much more marketable than completing one done entirely online? If so, are there any recommended institutions offering blended masters degrees in education?

Contract done. Change schools in same country. Consequences?

If I accepted and completed a 2 year contract in Vietnam, Thailand, or Indonesia then tried to move to a different school in the same country would I definitely be considered a local hire at the new school? Would it vary in those countries, that region of the world or the subsequent school that hired me?

What to do, where to go when it all goes wrong?

What do people do and where do they go when their job goes wrong and they leave their school for whatever reason during the academic year?

Capitalisation of degrees? I'm confused

Yes, I've Googled but still unsure.

In the sentence below is 'master's of education' correctly written with an apostrophe and no capitalisation?

I graduated with a master’s of education from The University of Sydney.

Re: 50 and over can not be hired in Germany?

Psyguy,
What do you think would that mean if someone started to work in Germany at 50 then in terms of retirement? I believe retirement is aged 67? With 17 years put in would the pension be of any significance? My German friends tell me it's best not to rely on a full German teachers' pension anyway. :(
