Re: New to The Game...

'Hypothetical Teacher A that has a CV with four schools with stays of 2/2/4/6 years will have an edge over hypothetical teacher B with a CV with seven schools where they stayed 2/2/2/2/2/2/2 years, assuming all references are equally positive.'

This is true.

2/2/2/2/2 only gets a look in late in the year when the unexpected starts happening.

Re: It's raining jobs in SE Asia.

I think it's important to differentiate how schools respond and how countries/governments do.

Schools have to follow the local laws and mandates and I know that there can be a tension between this and the way that lots of schools want to care for their community.

Re: Vaccination and other issues.

@shwanda - you're clearly a mentalist. And I don't mean the US understanding of that, I mean the Alan Partridge understanding...

- It's very clarifying to know that, for all the talk here, most of the posters on this forum are the same. You're sheep.

There's things I like to do. I can do those if I get a vaccine that protects me and others. My choice. Also your choice.

- Should Search add an HIV+ or HIV- yes or no question?

Perhaps, as this can be a factor that determine whether a country will let you in. Should the CCP not let in HIV+ people? It's really up to them.

On the plus side you've compelled @psyguy to be more concise and accurate, so well done on that.

Sending you love. And luck- as you're clearly going to need lots.

Re: Vaccination and other issues.

@shawanda

If you don't want to share such information then don't.

All of our choices and actions have consequences. The consequences of this might be not be able to take up new positions.

Your choice.

Re: Questions about timing

I think I'm just going to tidy up your posts from now on:

@SJ

It's a positive in the sense it's not a negative, but it's not worth anything in terms of value between candidates. IB experience in the classroom matters, and that has marketable utility. Having an ESOL certificate is a positive, it doesn't have marketable utility. There are many things that are positives that aren't worth anything.

Re: Where should I apply/next steps? (IB math teacher)

The lack of a teaching certification will likely be a big blocker to you being able to get work permits, and therefore jobs.

This might be less of an issue, or not an issue, in some countries but in many it will be.

Re: Updating of CV Information

Personally I put date of birth, passport nationality and marital status as these are things that could have a bearing on work permits being possible or not.

Re: Qualified or not?

I'd say it's more as Sid has described it. Can a school get a visa for you?

If a school can employ you and then your husband is with you initially through 'your' visa then it might be easier as he will already be in country.

Be up front with schools so they can give you straight answers and you don't get your time wasted.

It might be frustrating at first, but given your husband's qualifications and experiences I think he should be able to get work once you're there.

Good luck!

Re: Countries/Cities with 100K savings

In Western Europe it's almost always choose 2 out of 3 of:

- savings
- lifestyle (eating out etc.)
- travel

Re: Improving the ISR reviews - what would you add?

Just a point about 'lifers' in a school - I don't agree with the notion that people stay because they 'have no choice' because of marriage etc.

Most of us are in a privileged position of having choice and whilst I agree that marriage/relationships/children may be incentives to stay they're not a form of handcuffs.

The fact that people choose to stay says something about the location and/or school.

@psyguy

Leaving you '104,400'...in order to save 100K that would be some mitigation on housing and eating...

...homeless and starving might do it!

Re: When did you decide to settle down?

It's important for us that wherever we are is 'home'. And for us that means we settle in, we decorate and we embrace where we are as much as we can.

It's different for everyone but I never want to feel like I'm just passing through.

Re: Big fish in a small (Lower Tier 3) pond vs. small fish in a Big (Tier 1) Pond

@sid

I think this is a sensible approach that honours and values current staff.

But, of course sometimes it's necessary to go outside the organisation.
