I am really excited about having more freedom in the classroom. I was just expecting to get a much more concrete list of goals for each grade! I've been tied to a basal for the last two years... All this institutional trust is making me light-headed.
I can remember that excitement, wait till ou get bogged with the Unit Planner, AOIs and ATLs. Then you will have to deal with the management of the school who all seem to have a favourite book that simply has to be included. Then you have to assess each piece of work against 4 criteria and mark each criteria out of 10. then you have to convert the conbined scores into a grade of 1-7. Mandela had more freedom on Robin Island.

If you are thinking about the American school under Mulder and sulky, then do not waste your time. Terrible place that keeps saying they sre saving money this year so that they can move into a new school next year. Next year has been pushed back evry year for the last 4 years.

Just joined and had a look round. The info on 3 schools I have worked in is mostly wrong. Maps show wrong locations.

Info appears to have been ripped from Search and trip adviser.

Maybe better in time when more people have joined.

I think that where ever you go in SE Asia you will et sick during the first few months. It is just your body reacting to a new set of bugs.

Very few people get seriously ill but you have to expect a few day of runny tummy during your first few months. Buy your water from a safe supplier and always check the cap carfully to ensure that it has not been refilled.

There is a big problem with rumours of heavey metal contamination in bottles water, but I am still normal after many years in HCMC.

Watch out for your ice in drinks, the hollow cylinders are OK but the random squarish blocks should only be used to tack ice boxes to cool your bottles. Wipe the top of any bottle before you put it in your mouth.

Lots of mixed reviews on the paysite.

Must be desparate for teachers to be posting here.

Take care
Overseasvet2, you echoed my thoughts very well. We don't know, and probably never will know, the full story of the events on both sides of the issue. This whole thread has been a 7th grade pile-on.

Getting Texas A&M (less than "tenuous" connection, I'd say), and the IBO involved are just silly. I'm sure IBO is well aware of the events even if they are not privy to the details. And what would they do, anyway? It's my take that they are involved in curriculum, not administrative issues.
I feel that the IB should be involved, havin the IB loo says something about a school ethos as well as everything else. The school did not pay for leal representation and washed hands with a "No Comment"

The students at the school now know that they can do whatever they like. I have contacted the IB by E=Mail and not had any reply yet.

The students who made the complaint will be playing on the beach with no cares about what they have done to the poor teacher.

The teacher had told the students off 2 days before, the students then approached him when he was in the lunch que. They patted him on the head and put their fingers up his nose, they were making monkey noises. The teacher then made a comment that linked Muslims to Terrorists. He says that it was a comment about steriotyping and Racism.

We can all make guesses about what we think the teacher said and about what the children heard.

After a perental complaint that evening, the western management sacked the teacher before he came to work the next day. The police arrested the teacher and he has been in prison ever since.
For some strange reason, I find myself humming the words from an old Doobie Brothers song this morning . . .

"But what a fool believes he sees
No wise man has the power to reason away . . ."
It did not take long for Albert to prove he is a member of admin in SSIS, there is no need for personal abuse here Albert, you are not talking (down) to your own teachers here.

This has been an interesting thread, first we had a made-up poster called KAK who had contacts in almost every HCMC school and knew that they were all good. And now we have 2 school admins saying how good HCMC is.

Remember people, if they are posting and using sock-puppets on the forum, then they are almost certainly posting reviews on the pay site as well.

I feel that I should finish on a positive. My opinion of SSIS.

They are not as bad as RISS
Just because the guy has been arrested doesn't mean he's guilty or going to jail. The case is being investigated. The police have a job and that is to investigate those reported to have broken the law, so if a country has laws against something and 3 people call the police to report witnessing someone breaking that law, then authorities do have an obligation to investigate. It's easy to say that this wouldn't happen in other places and with regard to the particular law being discussed, I agree, it wouldn't. But even in the EU, if three people called the police saying that they had witnessed someone breaking the law then the police would investigate. This COULD happen anywhere. There are many occasions of teachers being subject to claims of criminal behavior from students. Some are false, but unfortunately some are not. It's not nice if a false claim is made against you, but it's a reality of the job that if students make a claim against a teacher it will be looked into. That's why we spend so much time in paranoid states of mind trying to make everything as absolutely transparent as possible. You can only hope and pray that your admin will fight in your corner.
The guy is in prison and will stay in prison until the Qatari legal system has had it's pound of flesh.

I do not know your school, but if it is Arab owned you should delete all posts now that you can be identified.

This thread has 459 views and the other one has more.

I know that 100 of the views belong to me a Psy Guy but you only need one idiot(there are some idiots on the interweb apparently) to contact the owners and you have no rights.

On a serious note, you should contact ISR and ask them to delete your earlier posts, now that you have come out as a teacher in the school you are easily identified.

I would hate the next headline about a jailed teacher to be about you and your spouse

You posted on another thread that you were thinking of running and that the Head would soon be "Out the door"

Would you like the world to keep quiet about the teacher who is in jail until you have done your runner and left him there.
